Ricoh Malaysia to hold CEO Talk on ‘Upholding Data Integrity: Challenges Facing the Financial Sector’

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 13 December 2007 – Ricoh, a global leader in digital office solutions, today hosted its second CEO Breakfast Talk at Ritz Carlton Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Titled “Upholding Data Integrity: Challenges Facing the Financial Sector”. The talk addressed the importance of data integrity and how to apply guidelines and systems by adopting Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) standards to maintain and manage information among financial services companies in Malaysia.

Following Ricoh’s successful inaugural CEO Breakfast Talk in September, today’s talk featured leading keynote speakers from the financial service sector, namely Mr. Tony Pereira, Vice President for Advance Payment Solutions of MasterCard, and Mr. Allen Chin, Technical Consultant from Symantec Malaysia.

Senior executives from the financial sector were treated to an informative session by Mr. Pereira on “Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards” where he shared his vast experience in compliance and site data protection. Mr. Chin from Symantec Malaysia also enlightened the participants on “IT Compliance, Endpoint and Messaging Security Solutions”.

“Data sharing, storage, and retrieval have become a minimum day-to-day requirement in contemporary business operations. Today, information is transformed into one of the most valuable assets of any organization, capable of rendering significant impact to a company’s credibility and reputation. It is definitely an area financial companies could not afford to take risks on,” said Lim Eng Weng, Managing Director of Ricoh (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

He pointed out that ensuring data accuracy, efficiency, and security is unquestionably one of the greatest challenges for financial organizations, business enterprises, and government agencies in this information age. Overcoming these challenges and maintaining a balanced system by adopting ISMS standards are key factors to ensuring business continuity. It is also fundamental to business excellence.

Data integrity is defined as the condition in which data is ‘complete’ and identically maintained during any operations (such as transfer, shortage or retrieval).

Ricoh’s CEO Breakfast Series, to be held regularly over the next few months, aims to create industry awareness and initiate dialogue with Malaysian corporations on ISMS and to enhance Information Security management practices and systems. The amount constituted 50 per cent reimbursement of the cost Free Net incurred to complete the ISO 27001:2005 certification, an internationally recognised standard for information protection, through the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Programme (MSC Malaysia CDP) MYISMS programme.

The 50 per cent reimbursement cheque which represents one of the incentives that suitable MSC Malaysia status companies can count on when going for different certifications under the MSC Malaysia CDP, was presented by Muhundhan Kamarapullai, the MSC Malaysia CDP, MYISMS Program Manager, to Billy Lee, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Free Net Business Solutions.

Free Net Business Solutions began the ISO 27001 certification process in December 2006 and completed it in June 2007.

“After we received the ISO 27001 certification, Free Net was able to bid for overseas contracts that required the certification. Already, we have seen a 10% - 15% increase in the number of our overseas customers and this has resulted in a 20% increase in our international revenue,” said Lee. “In 2008, we expect a further 10% rise in international revenue through overseas customers,” said Lee.

Free Net Business Solutions is an IT outsourcing company that provides managed services, help desk support, data centres and IT continuity services and infrastructure support to customers in Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. “Our job is to manage our customer's information. With the ISO 27001 certification we are able to assure our customers that we have international standards of policies, procedures and framework for information security in place,” he added.

To date, 600 organisations have benefited from these programmes in 2007 alone and more than 100 have been certified since the programme was launched in 2004.

“The MYISMS programme was established to help MSC Malaysia status companies increase their global competitiveness by adopting ISO 27001 standards. The programme provides guidance and training to these companies, and also financial support by advising them how they to reduce the cost of certification and by reimbursing successful companies with up to 50% of the cost of certification. We are very pleased to present Free Net Business Solutions with the very first reimbursement cheque issued through the MYISMS programme,” said Muhundhan.

Presently, the MSC CDP offers programmes in Project Management (PMP), Software Development (SPI & QuESTS), Software Testing (SADC STCD and SPPC), Information Security (MYISMS), IT Services Management (MYITSM), MSC Malaysia Six Sigma, Organisation Quality Management (oQms), and, MSC Malaysia Product Showcasing Programme.

2大馬MSC資格公司獲得CMMI認證

CMMI Assessment Makes Two MSC Malaysia Status Companies Competitive In And Outside Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – December 07, 2007 – 37 MSC Malaysia status companies presently hold CMMI assessment and through the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Program (MSC Malaysia CDP) 15 more MSC Malaysia status companies are expected to achieve CMMI assessment in 2008

Mr. S V Lingam, Managing Director, Paradigm Systems Bhd., said, “We achieved CMMI Maturity Level 2 rating through the MSC Malaysia CDP in 2006. The CMMI assessment helped us bring our various software development processes into alignment and this has had a direct impact on our business performance. On a project-to-project basis we have seen a 25% drop in our software development costs, service calls have fallen by 39% and errors during development have reduced by 46%.”

“As a result of the process improvements and savings we have realised through adopting the CMMI we have now decide to pursue CMMI Maturity Level 3 assessment,” Mr. Lingam added.

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

“The CMMI is an important part of Cuscapi's aggressive international expansion plans,” said Mr. Danny Leong, CEO, Cuscapi Bhd, another company that received its CMMI maturity rating through the MSC Malaysia CDP. The company's R&D subsidiary, Cuscapi Innovation Lab Sdn. Bhd., successfully completed CMMI Level 3 assessment in August 2007. “Being CMMI assessed is a requirement for most tenders in the United States and Europe and from all MNCs. And as markets mature in Asia, companies in this part of the world are also seeing the CMMI as a key competitive differentiator when evaluating tenders.”

Paradigm Systems Bhd. had been considering CMMI assessment since 2001 but logistical obstacles prevented them from pursuing assessment until 2005. “The MSC Malaysia CDP was a huge boon to us in our pursuit of CMMI assessment,” said Mr. Lingam. “The CDP helped us find the necessary expertise and training resources in a timely manner and at a cost-effective price.” Paradigm Systems took 16 months to complete CMMI Maturity Level 2 assessment.

Through the MSC Malaysia CDP, CMMI Maturity Level 2 assessment costs RM50,000 and CMMI assessments for Maturity Level 3 costs between RM200,000 – RM300,000 which makes it more affordable for the suitable MSC Malaysia status companies to pursue it though the MSC Malaysia CDP than on their own. Furthermore, MDeC reimburses companies that successfully complete CMMI assessment with up 50% of this cost.

The MSC Malaysia CDP is designed to help local ICT organisations develop their capabilities in delivering quality products and services in an increasingly demanding, competitive and sophisticated global market. To date, 600 organisations have benefited from these programmes in 2007 alone and more than 100 have been certified since the programme was launched in 2004.

The response to the programmes offered has been very encouraging. The country had fewer than a 100 PMP (project management programme) professionals in 2005 and only 1 CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) company assessed in 2004 and today through the efforts of the MSC Malaysia CDP, there are more than 800 PMP-certified individuals and 37 CMMI-assessed MSC Malaysia companies in Malaysia.

MAYA有獎遊戲成績公佈

CROWNING THE ‘MASTERS’ of MAYA

Nokia Siemens Networks today announced the three lucky winners of the Master of Maya Treasure Hunt that began in June 2007 and ended in September 2007. More than 3900 people participated in the Treasure Hunt through roadshows and the website (www.masterofmaya.com) by answering three questions related to the game.

Wan Mazura Bt. Wan Marzuki from UITM Shah Alam, who took home the 1st prize, a NEC laptop, said, "Master of Maya is one of a kind because it further enhances the mobile games available in the market. The Treasure Hunt was a mind-boggling and jam-packed adventure! I am overwhelmed with the prize and very thankful to Nokia Siemens Networks.”

The second and the third prize winners were Nabila Aima from UKM Bangi, who won a Sony Playstation 3, and Tuan Rosma Azyyati T. Rasid, also from UKM Bangi, who took home a Playstation Portable gaming console.

Master of Maya is the world's first trading card game for mobile phones, developed by Nokia Siemens Networks and offered exclusively by Maxis Communications Bhd. in Malaysia. In the game, players assume the roles of Mayan warlords and compete with other warlords in battles where they must skillfully deploy their forces to achieve strategic advantage. Players can challenge friends or other players, anytime and anywhere and Maxis offers play with no air time charges!

The game is kept fresh through booster packs that players can buy to introduce new trading cards into their deck. Decks can be managed through either a player's mobile phone or through the Master of Maya website. Both mobile phone and website are kept synchronized automatically. Players with surplus cards can trade them with other players for cards they do not have. Every player is then able to build a custom deck that capitalizes upon the strengths of their individual playing styles.

Bill Chang, Country Director, Malaysia, Nokia Siemens Networks, said, “Presently, network operators and service providers are facing pressures from all directions. They are pushed to increase the efficiencies of their operations and technologies and raise shareholder value. They are challenged to create new services to stay competitive. New analysis from 3G.co.uk reveals that the mobile games market – covering Asia Pacific ex-India and China is estimated to generate total end-user revenues amounting up to US $15 million between 2007 to end-2012.”

“Nokia Siemens Networks has worked with numerous operators around the world to support the design and implementation of their new business models. Partnering with Maxis Communications in Malaysia to host and integrate Master of Maya is a good example of the extended play business model, where an operator works with vendors to be more competitive. Master of Maya is the epitome of an insightful and innovative collaboration where Nokia Siemens Networks helped the operator with flexible and timely delivery of a new service to compete in this dynamic market”.
