AT&T-MCMC 2013 MALAYSIA DEVELOPERS’ DAY WINNERS CELEBRATE


KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, SEPTEMBER 9, 2013 – ‘Team Pillow’ comprising Jia Chiun (left) and Jit Ren (right), winner of this weekend’s inaugural Malaysia Developers’ Day competition, celebrated winning a US$10,000 prize for developing an app they dubbed “Perks” which uses location-based technology to let users know about special offers and promotions within close proximity. The prize was awarded by Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah, Chief Industry Development Officer of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) (second left) and Jake Jennings, Executive Director of International External and Regulatory Affairs of AT&T (second right). The intensive 24-hour competition drew more than 200 contestants, ranging in age from 15 to those in their 50’s. It was designed to empower participants to build innovative mobile apps and jumpstart new business creation. Organized by AT&T* and MCMC, the event gave participants access to tools, knowledge and expert support to build powerful apps within a very tight time-frame. It was AT&T’s first such event in Asia Pacific.
