SCAN CEO Scoops Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2007 Malaysia Region

Kuala Lumpur, 27 July, 2007 – Encik Aminuddin Baki Esa, SCAN Associates Berhad’s (“SCAN”) Chief Executive Officer ("CEO) was named the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2007 at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2007 Malaysia region (“APEA 2007”) gala dinner held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre last night. The award was presented in recognition of his vision and admirable efforts in making corporate social responsibility and the development of human capital as key elements of SCAN.

Receiving the award from YB Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminuddin said, “I am gratified to receive such a prestigious award from a body which acknowledges business leaders for exemplary entrepreneurship. This award is a tribute to the hard work and support of all my fellow Board of Directors, colleagues at SCAN and my family.”

Aminuddin joined SCAN as external business consultant for the Company in August 2003 while simultaneously overseeing SCAN’s Open Source Initiative Project as a project manager and consultant. As a consultant in SCAN, Aminuddin was instrumental in streamlining the business processes and the operations of SCAN. Having won the support of the management and employees of SCAN with his exemplary leadership skills and sharp business acumen, he crafted and led a management buy-in of the Company which was completed in August 2004.

Under Aminuddin’s leadership, SCAN grew by leaps and bounds in just three years, to become a leading ICT security player in Malaysia, with footprints in Indonesia and the Middle East. SCAN has enjoyed continuous growth, significantly increasing its year-on-year revenue since inception. In the financial year ended December 31, 2006, SCAN posted a 46.7% revenue growth in revenue totaling RM38.1 million and an increase of 21.6% in net profits to RM10.7 million. Through his unrelenting efforts, SCAN was successfully listed on the Mesdaq market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in October 2006. The Company recently bagged the 2007 Frost and Sullivan Telecoms Award for Managed Security Service Provider of the Year, their second consecutive win.

To nurture SCAN as a responsible corporate citizen, Aminuddin initiated various charitable causes including making a number of contributions and donations in aid of the underprivileged. SCAN has also taken the education route in its CSR efforts by providing a platform for students from various levels of studies to be exposed to the real corporate IT world such as participating in lectures, seminars and knowledge-sharing talks to educate students in ICT security.

Human resource development continues to be the main thrust of SCAN’s corporate policy. Aminuddin believes that a competent, versatile and highly skilled workforce is a prerequisite for an ICT company. His comprehensive development programme created for the staff has resulted in a highly skilled but agile workforce, with one of the lowest rates of staff turnover in the industry.

The APEA 2007 is designed to recognize Malaysian business leaders for outstanding performance in the communication of their visions, brands and strategies as judged by an independent judging panel. The awards attracted an overwhelming 695 nominations from more than 600 entrepreneurs and companies this year.
