ACCELERATION OF BROADBAND PENETRATION IS VITAL FOR KNOWLEDGE-INTENSIVE ECONOMY

3Com Asia Ltd lauds the Government’s commitment to enhance the nation's competitiveness by strengthening human capital and ensuring the well-being of all Malaysians as outlined in Budget 2008.

Specifically, the Government’s concerted efforts to narrow the digital divide in a quest to establish a knowledge-based economy is a step in the right direction. The target to increase broadband penetration rate from the current 12% to 50% of households by 2010, as well as duty and sales tax exemptions on broadband equipment will definitely accelerate the growth of internet access.
