IRIS Clinches Contract for Supply of Electronic Passport System in Senegal
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 September 2007 – IRIS Corporation Berhad (IRIS) has clinched a contract for the supply of an Electronic Passport System (EPS) to the Government of the Republic of Senegal, West Africa.
The contract is based on a Build-Own-Transfer (BOT) project-financing model, over a period of twenty years. IRIS will build and own the EPS for the BOT Period, after which ownership of the EPS will be transferred to the Government of the Republic of Senegal. During this period, IRIS will also be providing support services to the government, whose officers will be operating the EPS.
The contract to supply the e-passport system includes amongst other things consultancy, installation, maintenance and support of the e-Passport system. IRIS’ e-Passport System provides a fully integrated and highly secure solution for the enrollment, personalization and issuance of e-Passport to the citizen of the Republic of Senegal. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant e-Passport to be supplied by IRIS, enables the Government of the Republic of Senegal to secure the national passport against forgeries and identity theft.
The sites which have been identified for deployment and installation of the EPS are one main passport operation center in Dakar and eight regional passport operation centers in the Republic of Senegal. Another eight overseas passport operation centers in Embassies will also be installed with this system. The EPS will also include the installation of four Immigration Autogates at Dakar International Airport for automated and secure immigration clearance.
The e-Passport system supplied by IRIS will utilize the state-of-the-art IRIS Trusted Identity System called IdenCRAFT. As a comprehensive and flexible secured document management system, IdenCRAFT handles security, inventory, workflow and lifecycle requirements in a highly flexible and structured manner.
