German Technology Leader Rohde & Schwarz Strengthens Its Local Presence with New Headquarters Opening in Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR, 11 September 2007 - Rohde & Schwarz, one of the world leaders in the fields of professional radio communications, test & measurement, broadcast transmitter, radio monitoring & encryption technology, today officially opened its brand new operational headquarters in Malaysia to oversee the operations of sales, services , engineering and support of its products after establishing its presence here for more than 20 years.

Located at the heart of Temasya Industrial Park, Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd was incorporated in June 2004 and the new office was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Rafidah Aziz, Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia accompanied by Mr. Christian Leicher, President & COO of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG, Dr. Erich Freund, Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Asia Pacific and Mr. Joseph Soo, Managing Director of & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

“Malaysia has been a home ground for Rohde & Schwarz’s business for more than 20 years, offering a comprehensive suite of integrated services and solution in communications, testing and broadcasting. The new office marks another new chapter for Rohde & Schwarz as we continue to seek new opportunities in expanding our investment and business in Malaysia as well as provide better customer service and support. More importantly, we are here to share and transfer the knowledge and technology know-how to Malaysian companies, institutions and universities,” says Mr. Christian Leicher, President & COO of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG.

Presently, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd is the major supplier for the Government Digital Trunked Radio System based on TETRA, Naval Communication, Air Force Communications platforms and Army Communications, to mention a few. The company is also the prime supplier for DVB-H Mobile Broadcasting (TV on mobile phone) infrastructure as well as providing Radio Spectrum Monitoring and Direction Finding Systems to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

In conjunction with of the new office opening, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd has donated a set of communication equipment worth RM380,000 to International Islamic University Malaysia. The equipment will be installed and utilized by the Center for Telecommunication and Information Technology and used for research and development by lecturers, post-graduate and undergraduate final year projects. The equipment is used for testing mobile phones of 1G, 2G (GSM), 3G (WCDMA) and beyond. It is the multi-protocol tester for current and future mobile radio networks with scalable multimode functionality.

“It has been a long term interest and commitment for Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia in sharing and transferring our technology as well as donating the necessary equipments to local universities and institutions. This is in line with our government’s vision to develop more knowledge workers as we gear towards year 2020. To commemorate our new office opening today, we have started this commitment by signing a MOU with International Islamic University Malaysia,” said Mr. Joseph Soo, Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

At the event, a special MOU on technical collaboration and technology transfer was signed between Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd represented by Mr. Joseph Soo and Mr. Alan Seah, General Manager and International Islamic University Malaysia represented by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Syed Arabi Idid and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail. The MOU was witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Rafidah Aziz, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, President of International Islamic University Malaysia and Mr. Christian Leicher.

Being part of the dynamic global network of Rohde & Schwarz, the Malaysian branch has spent RM10 million to set up the 2000 sq/ft new headquarters which houses various departments such as sales & marketing, corporate service, engineering, supply chain management, application and training.

With more than 30 million Euro turnover achieved in 2006, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia’s staff strength has also grown from 10 employees in 2006 to 40 employees in 2007 and the number will reach 50 by year end.

Being a Malaysian entity, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn Bhd is a multi-racially staffed organization with 100% Malaysian professionals, which adds to the cultural strength of the company.
