PIKOM raises RM90K for charity

THE PIKOM CXO Charity Golf 2008 concluded on a high note at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Subang last Tuesday (Nov 4) as the total fund raised, for donation to charity, exceeded expectation.

A total of RM90, 000 has been raised through collection of participation fees, a charity auction and cash contribution from PIKOM, the national ICT Association of Malaysia, which organized the event. The association had earlier set a target of RM60, 000. The beneficiaries of the charity event are three charitable organizations namely the Diamond Home Care Centre – a home for the under privileged and orphans based in Setiawan, Perak; Shelter Home for Children – a home for underprivileged and abandoned children in Petaling Jaya; and Koisaan Educational Trust Fund set up buy Sabah-based Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA). Each received a donation of RM30, 000.

PIKOM Chairman David Wong Nan Fay and Organising Committee Chairman KC Goh presented the donations to the recipients during the prize-giving ceremony for the golf tournament. Shelter Home’s Executive Director James Nayagam, Diamond Home’s founder Pastor James A. Wilson and KDCA Klang Valley’s treasurer Justine Kinsik received the donation on behalf of their organizations.

PIKOM has been organizing Golf Tournaments for its members and guests annually over the last few years. The association has also been consistent in making contributions to charitable causes - both planned and on ad-hoc basis in cases of natural calamities.

By incorporating the charity drive into the Golf Tournament, PIKOM hopes that the event had been more meaningful to its members and their customers as well as to the community, said its President CJ Ang.

"With a tagline of Appreciate a Customer, Support a Good Cause, we asked members to sponsor their customers to take part in the Golf Tournament. Some members had also been generous in providing the auction items.”

Meanwhile, the Golf competition was won by Shaifuddin Shafie, an account manager from Cisco Systems (M) Sdn Bhd. He received prizes worth RM4, 147 comprising an Acer TravelMate notebook PC, a JVC Headphone, a PenDrive TwoPointFive 250GB external hard disk and a L’OCCATINE gift set.

The first runner-up position went to Azlan Rashid, the Chief Information Officer of Affin Bank who won prizes worth RM2, 205 comprising a Sony Playstation 3 80GB, a JVC Headphone a PenDrive Sliq 4GB and a L’OCCITANE gift set.

Silverlake Solution Centre Sdn Bhd’s See Chuan Thuan won the third place. He recieved prizes worth RM1, 514 comprising a Nintendo wii, a PenDrive Slig 4GB and a L’OCCITAN gift set.

Some 140 avid golfers from Malaysia’s information and communications technology (ICT) fraternity took part in the PIKOM CXO Charity Golf 2008, which offered prizes worth over RM400, 000, including a car each for two hole-in-one prizes on offer. However, none of the golfer achieved the hole-in-one feat.
