Nokia pumps up the music with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Grand style launch in the heart of Kuala Lumpur for Nokia’s first-ever S60 touch screen device and 1,000 songs giveaway

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA, 12 January 2009 – The much anticipated Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was finally unveiled in Malaysia during Nokia’s Night of Mayhem celebration at the Pavilion shopping mall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur last Friday. The launch of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was celebrated in a high-octane music extravagance, which was kicked off by an energetic Stomp-like performance by street percussion troupe Strikeforce! from Singapore. Local artists from Nokia’s Independent Artists Club (Nokia IAC) then took to stage with opening acts ‘Dose 2’, followed by ‘A Mantle The Sea’, indie pop band ‘Lovesick Avenue’, and ska band ‘40 Winks’.

The latest in Nokia’s XpressMusic range, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic delivers an affordable music device with a touch screen interface to the mass market. In Malaysia, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is retailed at RM1,499.00.

“When it comes to music phones, people all over the world want a device that provides a great music experience and still works really well as a mobile phone, without sacrificing features,” said Vlasta. “The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic delivers on this and allows consumer to quickly and easily access, personalise and share the content with their social network.”

Aiming to put music into the hands of millions, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers all the music essentials including a graphic equalizer, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks and support for all main digital music formats, and a 3.5mm jack. Built-in surround sound stereo speakers offer the industry’s most powerful sound.

“As Nokia’s first mass-market device with a touch screen, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic turns a user interface into a ‘human interface’ by truly putting people first. For example, we’ve introduced the Nokia Contacts Bar, which is like a digital RSS feed on your life,” said Glen Cha, Product Marketing Manager, Nokia Malaysia. “Taking advantage of touch screen technology, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic introduces the ‘Media Bar’, a handy drop down menu that provides direct access to music and entertainment, including favourite tracks, videos and photos.”
