Symantec Leads Market in Both Security and Storage Software in Asia Pacific Japan

Leading market research firm validates Symantec’s leadership in security, data protection and recovery, and storage infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – June 19, 2009 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced market share leadership in both security and storage software in Asia Pacific and Japan, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Asia/Pacific and Japan Semiannual Software Tracker H2 2008.

IDC reports that Symantec is the clear market share leader in key IDC storage software categories:
· Data protection and recovery software, with a 30 percent market share in 2008 as calculated by IDC, twice that of its next largest competitor.
· Storage infrastructure software, with a 26 percent market share.
Symantec also continues to lead the security software market with a 16 percent share in the region.

In Malaysia, Symantec leads the storage software market for 2008, with highest market share in key IDC storage software categories: 70 percent market share in data protection and recovery software, and 49 percent in storage infrastructure software. Symantec also leads the security software market in Malaysia with 25 percent share in 2008.
