Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, of Malaysia won Bronze Awards of Excellence
Schools from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Philippines, and Pakistan Recognized for Their Work to Transform Education
Jakarta, Indonesia, December 8, 2011 – Six schools were named the winners of the Regional Intel® Teach School Awards in recognition of their work to transform education through the integration of technology, creativity and innovation. The winners, selected from 17 schools across Asia, were announced at a ceremony held in Jakarta on Monday.
The Regional Intel Teach School Awards were given in two categories, mature and emerging markets. The winner of the Gold Award of Excellence in the emerging markets category was Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, of Vietnam, while a Silver Award of Excellence in the emerging market category was given to Caraga Regional Science High School, of the Philippines. Bronze Awards of Excellence in the emerging market category were awarded to Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, of Malaysia and Roots School System, of Pakistan.The winner of the Gold Award of Excellence in the mature market category was Crescent Girls School, of Singapore, while a Silver Award of Excellence in the mature market category went to Daegu Wolam Elementary School, of South Korea. There was no bronze award given in the mature market category.
"Schools play a crucial role in society and the Intel Teach School Awards recognize the teachers and schools that have demonstrated excellence using technology, innovation and creativity to transform education and prepare students for a 21st century career,” said Anjan Ghosh, regional director of corporate affairs at Intel Asia-Pacific. “The winners of the Intel Teach School Awards are role models that help inspire others to enhance the learning of their students through the use of technology.”
Gold Award of Excellence winners received a technology grant worth $5,000 each, while Silver and Bronze Award of Excellence winners received technology grants worth $3,000 and $2,000 each respectively.
The Regional Intel Teach School Awards recognize the accomplishments of schools that have demonstrated excellence in technology integration, creativity and innovation. The awards are open to all schools that have used ICT and innovative methodologies as a part of the learning environment for a period of one year, where the use of ICT and innovative practices has resulted in creative and practical outcomes that have had an observable impact on the students and community.
Winners were selected by a panel comprised of UNESCO staff, educators, and experts on the use of technology in education experts. Judges shortlisted applicants after reviewing their applications and winners were selected following a round of telephone and then face-to-face interviews.
“Educational institutions that use technology creatively and effectively are equipping their students with real-world skills needed in the 21st century.
