Local Animation Company Brings Malaysian Flavour to Global Audiences

Cingkus Blues, the first animation from MSC Malaysia Status Company, Third Rock Creation to air on Nickelodeon Channel from 18 February onwards

CYBERJAYA, FEBRUARY 15, 2012 –Local MSC Malaysia Status Company, Third Rock Creation Sdn Bhd. (http://www.3rd-rock-creation.com/) has scored their first milestone, and in the process, notched another achievement for the Malaysian creative industry, with Nickelodeon Channel’s airing of their production Cingkus Blues from Saturday, February 18 onwards. This locally- flavoured animated series harnesses the multi-dimensional creativity of Malaysia’s creative, animation and entertainment industry, thus enhancing the status of the country as a booming global ICT hub.

Cingkus Blues is a 26-episode series of 11-minute shorts, each regaling the adventures of two unlikely best friends and housemates, Cing, an uptight and egotistical blue cat who speaks with a distinctive British accent, and Kus, a chilled out and exuberant Rastafarian rat who always looks out for Cing. The many adventures that this dynamic duo gets up to will also feature several tourist spots in Malaysia, providing Nickelodeon’s international audience with a glimpse of Malaysia’s numerous iconic landmarks and destinations.
“From day one, our emphasis was to develop animated content that meets the stringent demands of regional and international markets. With more than 20 years experience in broadcast and production, we started work on Cingkus Blues in 2008. Since then, we have progressed by leaps and bounds, with Cingkus Blues being already slated for broadcast on Nickelodeon, as well as our second animation project, Soccerbugs, currently awaiting syndication on the international market. We may not be there yet, but we are certainly making strides in becoming a major player for content creation within the region,” Sheikh Raheem, CEO of Third Rock Creation said.“With the completion and successful syndication of Cingkus Blues, Third Rock Creation has proven to be the latest success story from the Malaysian animation industry to receive recognition on an international level. It is truly encouraging to see once again another successful maturation of the full content creation chain – from development and production all the way to the marketing and distribution of world-class content, and I am convinced that Malaysia will continue to grow as a fertile regional and global creative hub that is highly regarded by industry experts,” Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, CEO of MDeC said.
Third Rock Creation Sdn Bhd first obtained MSC Malaysia Status in 2009 and in the same year, managed to finish as one of the finalists for the “Best of Start-up Companies” category in the prestigious Asia-Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2009, also receiving a grant of RM 150,000 from the MSC Malaysia Technopreneur Pre-Seed Fund to kickstart their animation studio.

The first season of Cingkus Blues will be aired on the Nickelodeon Channel (Astro Channel 612) this Saturday, February 18 2012 at 10.30am.
