Sabah University of Malaysia Partners with FalconStor to Ensure Business Continuity and Quality Services for Students

KUALA LUMPUR, September 18, 2012 — FalconStor Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: FALC), a market leader in disk-based data protection, today announced that Sabah University of Malaysia (UMS) has implemented FalconStor’s data protection solutions – including FalconStor® Continuous Data Protector (CDP), FalconStor® Virtual Tape Library (VTL), and HyperTrac™ Backup Accelerator products -- in an effort to achieve business continuity while controlling data growth and storage costs.

For most organizations, backup and recovery is a challenge, and UMS is no exception. Since its inauguration in 1994, UMS has grown from approximately 200 undergraduate students to more than 15,000. With the rapid expansion of the university’s student population comes even more data, in particular the academic and personal information that students have entrusted to the school for safekeeping. With increased awareness of the risks of data loss, the Malaysian government has introduced the Personal Data Protection Bill, which penalizes organizations that mishandle their data. A new, trusted backup and business continuity facility was needed to increase confidence in the safety and integrity of information and to help the UMS data center achieve Information Security Management System Certification (ISO/IEC 27001).
