42 Students from 12 Countries Will Fly to Singapore for Three Days of Skills Training to Design a Sustainable Future
MALAYSIA, Oct. 31, 2012 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, is pleased to announce the return of the Autodesk PANORAMA Student Bootcamp for the fourth year running. This November, budding design students from 12 countries will arrive in Singapore to attend the three-day program, aimed at igniting passion and creativity in the next generation of aspiring designers and animators, to shape the future with the power of design.
This year, the Autodesk PANORAMA Student Bootcamp returns bigger and better, welcoming students from countries across Asia Pacific to submit entries in three main categories — Architecture, Manufacturing and Animation. Student participants from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand can look forward to a truly international experience during the bootcamp, organized by Singapore Polytechnic and sponsored by Autodesk, with the support of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
The Autodesk PANORAMA Bootcamp will see student participants attend three full days of workshops and training sessions at Singapore Polytechnic’s Digital Media & Infocomm Technology center. Participants will be coached and mentored by industry specialists from Autodesk. The workshops also aim to raise students’ competence in using Autodesk 123D Catch application: a tool that turns photos of objects into 3D models. Created to give anyone — not just designers and engineers — the power to design and create their own 3D models, the 123D Catch app will give participants and their peers the tools needed to harness their creativity and bring design ideas to life.
“We are very excited to host this year’s Autodesk PANORAMA winners in Singapore for such a special program. Gaining international exposure and pointers for success in the real world from today’s industry experts will be a rare and valuable experience for participants. We hope that this exchange will empower participants to share the lessons learned to help ignite passion and creativity in other young designers around the world,” said Mr. Tan Hang Cheong, principal, Singapore Polytechnic.
The 42 winning students were chosen based on online submissions subject to rigorous judging and selection. Each student winner will enjoy a five-day expenses-paid trip to Singapore to attend the bootcamp. Students in the Architecture and Manufacturing categories can also win a team award for Sustainability Design worth US$1,500.
“We are encouraged by the growing quality of submissions for Autodesk PANORAMA every year, and this points to the tremendous potential of our young infocomm talent in Singapore and across Asia. This partnership with Autodesk is one of IDA’s National Infocomm Competitions, and we believe that ICT competitions like this are important platforms for talented individuals to showcase their programming capabilities, get a sense of the abilities of their counterparts and to build solutions that have potential applications in real life. We are confident each of our contestants will have a bright future as they continue their journey in the exciting world of design and technology,” said Mr. Andrew Khaw, senior director, Industry Development Group, IDA.
The Autodesk PANORAMA Bootcamp will take place from 6 – 8 November, 2012. Winning entries can be viewed online at www.autodeskpanorama.com.
