150 & Still Pushing Boundaries

PC.com publishes its 150th issue and celebrates the milestone with a bang by giving away 150 prizes

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 November 2012: Reach Publishing Sdn Bhd, one of Malaysia's leading publishing houses, celebrates the 150th issue publication of its flagship title, PC.com, with pomp and grandeur at Berjaya Time Square during the long festive weekend - from 17-18 November 2012. This milestone, a rare feat for a local technology magazine, speaks volumes of its recognition and success within the ICT and publishing industries.

Deputy Minister of the Higher Learning, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, who officiated the two-day event, was pleased to witness the initiatives that PC.com has taken to educate the general public of the ever changing ICT landscape.

“Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is more than what it used to be. We are no longer in the ICT era anymore. Instead, I’d like to rebrand it as an ‘Information Sharing Technology’ ecosystem. This is the reality, where information is freely shared with one another. Indeed, we - Malaysians and the world over - are poised to go further than ever before,” he notes.

Visitors to the PC.com 150th Milestone Celebration are given the opportunity to get a direct hands-on with the latest and greatest gadgets from  innovation leaders such as Sony, Armaggeddon, and Asia’s PC Extreme Syndicate (APES), when the vendors also joined hands to celebrate the momentous occasion. Visitors are also able to check out new services from high-speed broadband providers, TMNet UniFi and U Mobile.

Other activities that are carried out at the event include a Counter Strike: Global Offensive competition, which pitted eight teams - one from Singapore even - against each other for the glory of winning some great cash and sponsored prizes; lucky draw session; a photography forum that Sony organised for its fans; and gaming demos with Sony PlayStation 3 consoles.

The winner of the two-day long gaming competition is Team Orange and they walk away from the gruelling match with a grand prize consisting of cash and products worth RM1,750.

Selva Rajan, the Managing Editor and Publisher of Reach Publishing shares how PC.com has seen it all and had been a part of the many advancements and achievements the ICT industry has undergone over the past 12 years since it had been first published. “I still remember when PC.com first hit the newsstands. At that time the fastest internet speed still clocked below 1Mbps; the fastest processor is a Pentium 3; and TMNet had just started to spread its wings. Now 12 years later, we have high speed broadband, powerful yet tiny computers in our pockets and, indeed, so much more have yet to come.”
