US-based nexTier Networks Inc appoints Malaysian distributor

Powerbloc Generation Appointed as Sole Distributor of Intelligent Data Leak Prevention Solution

Kuala Lumpur, 2nd November 2012 – nexTier Networks Inc (nexTier), the company that is revolutionizing information security and data leak prevention through its unique semantic analysis technology, today announced that it has appointed Powerbloc Generation (M) Sdn Bhd (Powerbloc) as the authorized distributor of its Data Leak Prevention (DLP) solution for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. The solution is to help organizations prevent malicious leaks of sensitive information and mitigate data security risks.

"We see great potential in the Malaysia market for our DLP solution and it is vital that we partner with the right distributor that can help us establish our product footprint here as well as one that shares our vision of helping companies prevent malicious leaks of data. We find Powerbloc is the right partner to help us make this vision a reality for many companies throughout Malaysia." said Mr Tarique Mustafa, CEO and Chairman of nexTier.

One of the biggest challenges for organizations today is protecting ever-increasing amounts of sensitive data, and that data is increasingly unstructured and harder to discover.  Leaks of sensitive data can result in monetary losses as well as irreparable damage to the organization’s reputation and credibility. Especially in the internet age, organizations are more at risk as stories about high-profile data leakages involving personal and corporate data continue to appear.  While in some cases, the data leakage is unintentional, others are done maliciously.

“Traditional DLP solutions, based on fingerprinting technologies are no longer enough to protect the organization’s sensitive information. You need to understand the data's DNA. With nexTier’s DLP, organizations are able to monitor all egress points for potential data leakage and protecting sensitive data across the enterprise – from web applications to endpoints. Our system uniquely understands the data and determines a security policy based on that context to determine where that document can and cannot go,” Mustafa explained.

nexTier’s DLP technology is designed to address the significant limitations of other DLP products by greatly reducing deployment time and keeping data storage requirements to a minimum. It safeguards both structured and unstructured data with minimal human intervention to protect companies against both inadvertent and malicious attacks while complying with government and regulatory mandates, such as the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) that was gazetted in 2010 in Malaysia and came into effect in June 2012.

In 2009, nexTier has also received the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Award for Network Security Infrastructure Protection Excellence in Technology for pioneering the area of information security with its solution that improves on current DLP technologies with a real-time solution that provides twice the accuracy, five times the performance, and ten times the ability to scale.

General Manager of Powerbloc, Sri Utami Dewi Hj Kasman said, "No other security provider provides such a contextually-aware and complete suite of DLP solution in the industry today that comes with built-in semantic analysis and automated security policy management. The partnership with nexTier will allow us to offer the benefits of this technology to the Malaysian market, to help organizations reduce the risk of negligent or malicious disclosure of confidential and sensitive data”.

She added that financial institutions and the public sector will be Powerbloc’s key target markets for nexTier’s DLP solution in Malaysia. The company has appointed Night Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd and MSP Systems (M) Sdn Bhd as two of the channel partners to resell the solution.
