Paul Moung named Managing Director, IBM Malaysia


MALAYSIA, February 27, 2013 -- IBM today announced the appointment of Paul Moung as Managing Director of IBM Malaysia, succeeding Ramanathan Sathiamutty who is leaving the company to pursue other interests. The appointment will take effect on April 1, 2013.

Cordelia Chung, Regional General Manager, IBM ASEAN said, “Paul’s unique client focus and his diverse leadership experience with Growth Markets, Asia Pacific, ASEAN and country teams, make him the right person to lead IBM Malaysia. Rama has put in place a strong business ecosystem and a high-performing IBM team in Malaysia that provide an excellent foundation for Paul to lead IBM Malaysia in its next growth chapter.”

Chung added:  “I want to thank Rama for his leadership and for his focus on delivering higher value to our clients and the country. Under his stewardship, IBM Malaysia has helped clients capitalise on emerging growth trends such as Smarter Commerce, Analytics and Smarter Cities. The IBM Corporation has made new and significant investments in the global delivery centers in Malaysia in recent years and collaborated with institutes of higher education to nurture high-value science and technology skills and talent in the country. I am confident that under Paul’s leadership, Malaysia will continue to be a key market for IBM.”

Moung’s 27-year career in management with IBM has spanned a variety of senior executive roles. He brings with him invaluable experience and insights gained from his assignments across Asia Pacific. He was the first Asian to be appointed to the role of General Manager of Hong Kong in1994. He has also served as General Manager, Software Group ASEAN/South Asia, Vice President, Storage Systems Group, Asia Pacific, Vice President, Systems & Technology Group/Business Partners, ASEAN/South Asia, and Vice President, Systems & Technology Group, Japan. Prior to this appointment, Moung was the Vice President for Cloud and Smarter Planet, Growth Markets.

Under Moung’s leadership, IBM has achieved significant growth in cloud computing revenue. He was instrumental in developing Cloud-enabled new business models for IBM clients and business partners in the healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing industries. This includes private cloud platforms at several Asian conglomerates and expanding the reach of cloud computing through strategic partnerships in Turkey, Malaysia and India.
