ZTE Corporation to Deploy Telco’s Disaster Recovery (DR) System for a Stable and Reliable 3G Network Service
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 October 2013 – U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most dynamic and innovative 3G mobile operator, is set to provide more reliable and resilient network to its subscribers as the telco inks a disaster recovery (DR) system partnership agreement with ZTE Corporation in the presence of the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the People’s Republic of China.
President Xi Jinping, who is currently in town for a 3-day diplomatic visit to Malaysia as part of his Southeast Asia tour, graces the signing ceremony with Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, as witnesses of a partnership agreement between U Mobile and ZTE – both dynamic entities in respective countries – in the spirit of fostering good bilateral ties and exploring economic opportunities between the two nations.

Through this partnership, U Mobile is appointing ZTE to deploy DR system for U Mobile’s core network, providing stable, resilient and robust network service to U Mobile users. The DR system is expected to complete within 2014, enhancing U Mobile’s ability to provide seamless Internet and mobile services to subscribers with minimal interruption. Upon completion of the project, U Mobile will explore subsequent upgrades and purchases depending on the network’s capacity requirement.
“We are living in a connected society where almost everyone has access to mobile and internet services wherever they go. Hence, network stability and coverage are keys to connectivity, and we at U Mobile are taking additional measures to safeguard and backup our network system, so that users can continue their seamless mobile experiences and stay connected with U Mobile,” said Wong Heang Tuck, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of U Mobile.

Witnessing the signing were Too Tian Jen, U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer; Zhang Renjun, Senior Vice President of ZTE Corporation and Zhou Fang, President of South East Asia, ZTE Corporation.

In celebration of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, which falls on 1 October annually; U Mobile is throwing a special IDD promo where the top 300 prepaid and postpaid plan users who make IDD calls to China will be rewarded with 50MB on the next day. From 1 – 10 October, users with accumulated airtime to China of more than 15 minutes stand a chance to be rewarded, even more than once during the promo period. This enables U Mobile subscribers to stay connected with their friends and family who are currently residing, working or studying in China.
