Sound perfected - Sennheiser presents its analogue and digital headphone amplifiers

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 14 February 2014 – Audio specialist Sennheiser announced that its HDVD 800 and HDVA 600 headphone amplifier is now available for sale in Malaysia. The HDVD 800 was recognized with Outstanding Technical Achievement awards by the TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) Foundation. Sennheiser USA President Greg Beebe accepted the award during a reception held at the 2014 NAMM show in Anaheim on 24 January. The HDVD 800 headphone amp/DAC allows for optimal performance when paired with any Sennheiser audiophile headphones.

Since the TEC Foundation was established in 1990, Sennheiser and its subsidiary Georg Neumann, Berlin have been presented with a cumulative total of 20 Outstanding Technical Achievement awards as well as having five products represented in the TECnology Hall of Fame, including the venerable MD 421 microphone.

“On behalf of the entire Sennheiser team, I want to express my gratitude to the TEC Foundation for recognizing the HDVD 800 with Outstanding Achievement award,” said Greg Beebe. “At Sennheiser, we are committed to the Pursuit of Perfect Sound – and this commitment is reflected in products that dramatically improve our customers’ ability to deliver audio quality that is second to none.”

The outstanding features of the new headphone amplifiers include a balanced sound image, maximum precision and impressive spatiality. The high-end devices have a fully symmetrical layout for operation with analogue audio sources, thus ensuring absolutely symmetrical signal transmission from the source to the headphones. Especially designed for the use with digital sources, the HDVD 800 features an extra high-quality Burr-Brown digital/analogue converter that converts digital audio data into analogue signals with a resolution of 24 bits and a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz. This enables the HDVD 800 to transmit the entire frequency spectrum of high-end audio sources without any loss of frequencies.

Cutting-edge technology, top-quality sound
Signal processing in the HiFi devices is fully symmetrical. That means that not only the signal input into the amplifier is symmetrical but also the signal output and therefore the connection to the headphones. “The fully symmetrical principle effectively compensates for interference and distortion. The sound therefore becomes much clearer as total harmonic distortion is minimised," explained Axel Grell, Sennheiser’s High-End Product Manager at Sennheiser.

However, the headphones can also be connected using a normal 6.3 mm jack plug. The amplifiers are also equipped with an asymmetrical input socket; when using this input, the incoming signals are symmetrised before further processing takes place. On the HDVD 800 digital sources are connected to the rear of the unit as an AES/EBU input or S/PDIF (optical and coaxial). The digital version is featured with an extra USB input, which offers 24 bit data transmission at 192 KHz*.

In order to fully exploit the sound potential of the HDVD 800 with any audio source, a rotary gain switch at the rear of the unit provides simple adaptation of the amplifier output to the audio input voltage. This ensures that the dynamic range can be used to its full extent.

Sophisticated materials for a premium touch
A glass panel embedded in the aluminium housing of the amplifier gives a clear view of the top-quality interior of the devices. Selected components and sophisticated circuitry promise the ultimate in listening pleasure. The rotary potentiometer is mechanically connected to the volume control by a 150mm long shaft. This unusually long potentiometer shaft allows the signal path between the audio source and the potentiometer to be kept very short, thus preventing possible interference of the signal. High-quality components (Alps RK 27 quad) ensure that the volume is controlled with maximum precision and a fine rotary ‘feel’. Also visible through the glass panel are the cooling element, the audio relay and countless MELF resistors for the amplifier. “The material selection has been thought through down to the finest detail in order to fully exploit the amplifier’s sound potential. The audio aspects of each individual component were evaluated in listening tests before the optimum combination was finally chosen,” said Maurice Quarré.

And such meticulous attention has also been applied to the exterior. Both the housing and the potentiometer control as well as the rotary switch for selecting the source are made of anodised aluminium, while the front panel of the housing and the controls are milled from solid material. The HDVD 800 and the HDVA 600 were developed and designed in Germany, and the latest member of Sennheiser’s high-end series are also being manufactured there.

The Sennheiser HDVD 800 and HDVA 600 is available at the Sennheiser Concept Store, in Bangsar Shopping Centre. Retail prices for the HDVD 800 is RM 7,590 and the HDVA 600 is RM 6,090

This perfect match ensures that gamers using Sennheiser gaming headsets will get an authentic sound experience that’s optimized to be exactly as the developers at Io-Interactive intended.

Io-Interactive, part of the Square Enix group and the creator of blockbuster games such as the Hitman and Kane & Lynch franchises, has used Sennheiser recording equipment and headsets in crafting the audio for several games including Hitman Absolution. Having been impressed with the results, the new alliance sees Io-Interactive committing to use Sennheiser technology for future game development.

Frans Galschiøt Quaade, Lead Sound Designer, Io-Interactive explains the unique partnership: "Sennheiser equipment makes our games sound better – both for us and the gamer. Not only are these great gaming headsets for both producing and playing games, but using Sennheiser equipment during development ensures a great and consistent audio experience all the way from the production to end consumer."

Game developers put great effort into creating complex and realistic soundscapes for games. “By collaborating with Io-Interactive and by launching the new PC gaming headsets G4ME™ ZERO and G4ME™ ONE, Sennheiser takes pride in making sure that gamers get to hear the high-level of acoustic quality and details that the developers intended you to hear,” says Christian Ern, Director Product Management at Sennheiser Communications. “The incredible comfort and convenience of our new headsets means that there is virtually nothing between you and the game.”

G4ME™ ZERO and G4ME™ ONE represent a new era in professional gaming headset design. Increased emphasis has been placed on ergonomics and supreme comfort for even long periods of gaming. Meanwhile, top-of-the-line noise cancellation technologies in the built in microphones ensure clear communication during online or multi-player gaming. By using Sennheiser’s PCV 05 Combo audio adaptor, G4ME™ ZERO and G4ME™ ONE can also be connected to the new PS4™ as well as Mac computers. Naturally, the new PC gaming headsets benefit from Sennheiser’s 70 years of experience as a leader in audio and deliver incredible sound quality.

The company remains the only gaming headset company in the world to manufacture its own transducers, with the components powering the G4ME™ ZERO and G4ME™ ONE specifically optimized to deliver an extremely accurate reproduction of gaming audio. And in the heat of the action, smart features such as intuitive volume controls integrated into the ear cup and the ability to instantly mute the mic simply by lifting the mic boom, mean that there are fewer distractions so that you can stay focused on the game experience.

G4ME ONE – Feel the game, not the headset
Offering exceptionally natural and accurate sound quality, the new G4ME™ ONE is built to be the ultimate headset for home gaming. Legends reborn World’s best gaming headsets reengineered for today’s players

Kuala Lumpur, 30 October 2013 –Sennheiser announces the rebirth of two true Legends. The sought after PC 350 and PC 363D gaming headsets have been reengineered to feature optimised comfort, design and virtual 7.1 surround sound.

Great news for quality-conscious gamers, who seek nothing but the best: the new Sennheiser PC 350 Special Edition and the PC 363D Surround Sound gaming headsets ensure your partner can live in tranquillity, not being able to hear the action from your headset, while you become fully immersed in your games.

Sennheiser has developed the two new headsets specifically for two types of players:

For the ‘Pro’ Player
A professional noise blocking headset, the PC 350 Special Edition will keep you gaming in private. Even at full volume, more than 95% of the gaming audio will remain inside the headset so you can immerse yourself in the game while those around you won’t hear a thing. This is optimal for professional gamers at LAN events or home players who do not want to be interrupted - or interrupt others while playing.
The Special Edition also features the most accurate sound reproduction in a gaming headset today. Utilising Sennheiser’s “Eargonomic Acoustic Refinement” technology, the headset channels audio signals directly into your ears, rather than onto them.

For the ultimate entertainment and gadget loving player
Delivering full virtual 7.1 Surround Sound with Dolby® Pro Logic® IIx, the PC 363D Surround Sound creates a much deeper audio experience and allows you to accurately pinpoint the direction of engine roars, shots or explosions. Designed for long hours of gaming, without breaking a sweat or getting warm ears, it features an open acoustic design, which lets air flow through to keep you extra comfortable at all times.
Engineered for quality and comfort
Both headsets feature German-engineered technology with speakers manufactured individually at Sennheiser’s own facility in Ireland. They come fully equipped with a pro noise cancelling microphone, and to top it off, Sennheiser has built all headset controls into the specially designed metal ear cups and microphone boom, making volume control and mute functions easy and intuitive.

“We realised that the previous models, from 2008 and 2010 are still the most sought after headsets by gamers. We have learned a lot since developing them, so we went back to see how we could make them even better, using what we know today,” says Product Manager Christian Ern of Sennheiser Communications.
The new Sennheiser PC 350 Special Edition (RM1,099) and PC 363D Surround Sound (RM 1,289) gaming headsets are now available at selected Sennheiser sales partner stores.

Equipped with high-end 18-ohm transducers, MOMENTUM On-Ear guarantees full stereo sound with a slight bass emphasis in a frequency range from 16 to 22,000 Hz. Thanks to their closed, on-ear design, these headphones isolate the listener from external noise to ensure a great listening experience on the move – even in noisy urban environments

Perfection in every detail
MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones feature a single-sided detachable cable with convenient in-line remote and microphone for Apple iDevices for easy control of music playback and to make and receive calls on the go.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Innovation Campus: Sennheiser begins development of corporate infrastructure

Wedemark, 19. July 2013 – Dr. Andreas Sennheiser and Daniel Sennheiser have just celebrated the beginning of construction of the Innovation Campus at company headquarters in Wennebostel (borough of Wedemark) with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. The Innovation Campus, which will cost around 20 million Euros, will provide approximately 7,000 square metres of optimum, modern workspace for employees, as well as room for an events facility. As stated by Dr. Andreas Sennheiser and Daniel Sennheiser, CEOs of Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG., “with the Innovation Campus  we will have room to further develop Sennheiser’s innovative company culture. Today we are laying the foundation for lots of creative ideas which will form the basis of future success.” Construction work should be completed by the end of 2014.

On behalf of all shareholders and accompanied by family members Karin, Daniel, Alannah and Dinah Sennheiser, Dr. Andreas Sennheiser welcomed the guests to the ceremony. Attendees included the Mayor of the borough of Wedemark Tjark Bartels, the project manager Höhlich & Schmotz, other political and business representatives and local residents. “As the third generation, it is a great pleasure for us to be able to build on our grandfather’s legacy. Today we are laying the foundation for the Innovation  Campus, which marks a new milestone in our development plan”, said Dr. Andreas Sennheiser.

(from left to right): Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, Alannah Sennheiser, Karin Sennheiser and Daniel Sennheiser

For the laying of the foundation stone, along with his brother Daniel and sister Alannah, Dr. Andreas Sennheiser filled a ‘time-capsule’ with documents and products which symbolise the importance of Sennheiser’s innovative company culture. The contents included a photograph of the three generations of the Sennheiser family, a current annual report, new Euro coins and a daily newspaper - hot off the press. Also included were the classic microphone MD 421, the IE 800 ear canal phones and a digital handheld transmitter SKM 9000 from the Digital 9000 system. The MD 421 is one of the best-known microphones in the world; the IE 800 is the headphone containing the most innovations per square millimetre and the Digital 9000 system has been developed for all professional users in broadcast studios, theatres and live performances unwilling to comprise on sound. Its unique uncompressed digital audio transmission offers artefact-free sound with great dynamics. And because every idea begins on a piece of blank paper, pens and paper completed the contents of the ‘time-capsule’ as a symbol of the brainstorming, which takes place within the company.  Dr. Andreas Sennheiser and Daniel Sennheiser then came to break ground, thereby marking the beginning of the construction of the Innovation Campus.

As part of an extensive site development plan, the Innovation Campus represents a clear commitment to Sennheiser’s company roots. A modern building complex will be developed on an area of approximately 3,200 square metres. Office space on three floors will offer 300 employees space for collaborative work and dedicated project areas. Part of the building fits in with the local architecture of sandstone-coloured clinker brick. The three “fingers” will also adopt the architectural style of the existing buildings on the site.
‘Time-capsule’ with documents and products (from left to right): Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, Daniel Sennheiser, Alannah Sennheiser and Karin Sennheiser

With its cubist geometry, this part of the building stands out thanks to its shape and materials, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows, which flood the building with light.  In contrast, the facade of the 199-seat events building will boast a modern surface of curved aluminium scales in light silver. This is an innovative approach, which also incorporates green areas to encourage people to relax in the forecourt. “We will be welcoming visitors here from all over the world”, says Dr. Andreas Sennheiser. “With our clients - artists such as P!NK - we will be able to try out the microphones that we have developed specifically for them in the theatre.” Furthermore, a Sennheiser Flagship Store is also planned, where visitors will be able to learn about, and purchase, the latest products.
