PIKOM INTRODUCES AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY TO BROADEN BASE

Petaling Jaya, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 – PIKOM, the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia is confident that its current membership base may well breach the 1000 mark in the next 12 months the introduction of the new Affiliate Membership category. PIKOM’s membership count currently stands at 675.

Chairman of PIKOM Lee Boon Kok said the Association has recently obtained official approval from the Registrar of Societies to make way for this new membership category; adding to its existing Ordinary and Associate Membership categories. The Affiliate Membership caters to a larger community of the information and communications technology industry (ICT) players in the country.

“This category of membership is targeted at start-ups, MSC-status companies and other smaller companies such as local ICT retailers throughout the country. It is also a good opportunity for potential Ordinary Members to start off with being an Affiliate Member of PIKOM before deciding to be a full-fledged Ordinary Member of the Association,” Lee said.

“The Affiliate Membership is open to Malaysian organisations and is bestowed with all privileges of an Ordinary Member except that they are not eligible to vote or stand for election for any PIKOM Council position at any PIKOM General Meetings (including annual general meetings and emergency general meetings). Nevertheless, they are eligible to participate in limited PIKOM events at subsidised rates available to Ordinary or Associate Members. Going forward, Affiliate Members can still participate in events like the PIKOM PC Fair and PIKOM Software and Services Showcase (PS3) at special rates,” Lee said.

PIKOM Membership Services Chairman Stan Singh-Jit said that in addition to new applications, existing Ordinary Members of PIKOM may opt to change their membership status to be Affiliate Members subject to the PIKOM Council’s approval. For this, PIKOM will soon make an announcement to its existing members on the window period to apply for the membership change. Meanwhile, new application for the PIKOM Affiliate Membership is currently on-going.

The Affiliate Membership entrance fee costs RM200 with an annual subscription rate of RM200, while the Ordinary and Associate Membership entrance and annual subscription fees are RM1000 and RM500 respectively.
