BLUE COAT NAMES ROBERT S. QUINN AS CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER October 24, 2007 – Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BCSI), a leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced the appointment of Robert S. Quinn as chief information officer. Quinn brings more than 25 years of experience to Blue Coat, including being a CIO in both a large, global organization and Internet start-ups. He has built successful engineering, operations and IT organizations. Reporting directly to Dave de Simone, senior vice president, Corporate Operations, Quinn will be responsible for Blue Coat’s information technology strategy and overseeing its IT operations and infrastructure.

Robert Quinn most recently served as vice president, CIT Science and Business Solutions, at Genentech where he was responsible for building the company’s enterprise IT systems and improving business processes. While at Genentech, Quinn also focused on a variety of IT solutions to support corporate and commercial functions and research and development. Previously, Quinn served as vice president and CIO for leading semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer KLA-Tencor where he oversaw IT Operations, Business Applications, Support Services and Engineering IT Services.

Quinn also has held executive and senior positions at Portera Systems, eBay, and Sun Microsystems. At Portera Systems, Quinn was CIO and vice president of operations and built the company from the ground up focusing on high quality, measured performance and customer satisfaction. Prior to Portera, Quinn joined eBay as CIO and vice president of Site Operations. Before eBay, Quinn managed various IT and engineering organizations during his eleven years at Sun Microsystems. Quinn joined Sun Microsystems as a manager, EDP Audit and Security and last held the position of vice president and CIO, Computer Systems where he was responsible for an organization of 950 professionals and a budget of US$258M in Sun's largest division. Quinn holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Accounting from Baldwin-Wallace College.
