Intermec Delivers New Standard in ''Plug and Play'' Scanning for Retail Point-of-Service Applications

Powerful SR30 Handheld Scanner with Auto-Adapting Interface Drives Down Costs, Complexity

MALAYSIA, 29 April 2008 – Intermec has recently announced the auto-adapting SR30 handheld bar code scanner for retail point-of-service (POS) applications. With easy connectivity and the ability to instantly adapt to new configuration requirements, the SR30 allows retailers and their information technology suppliers to reduce device costs and complexity while equipping users with a robust and flexible scanning workhorse. Built for productivity, the lightweight SR30 integrates patented Intermec Vista linear imaging technology to deliver fast, always-accurate scanning, even when bar codes are damaged or poorly printed.

"Typically, different interfaces require different scanners, which means lots of inventory and multiple sets of instructions," said Layne Spiering, National Account Executive at Intermec reseller DBK Concepts, Inc. "The SR30 allows customers to standardize on one scanner, which is simpler and more cost effective for everyone. We all want technology that is flexible and reliable, but it's also got to be easy to use. The SR30 truly is plug and play -- there's no work to install it or switch it over to another application, and the scan engine is a real powerhouse."

The SR30's auto-adapting capabilities simplify installation, enabling instant connectivity to POS terminals, Intermec mobile or fixed mount computers and standard personal computers. Users no longer need to struggle to configure drivers, cables or scan engines to install a new scanner or to manually reconfigure it when changing tasks. The scanner can be moved from one terminal to another or switched from POS to inventory tasks, for example, without additional set-up. The SR30 adapts automatically to different interfaces, so users simply plug in the appropriate cable -- USB, RS232, PS2 -- to get up and running again. Users save time, need less training and support and are better equipped for changing business needs.

In an industry where margins are narrowing, the SR30 reduces inventory costs and the complexity of multiple application requirements, benefiting both retailers and their information systems equipment suppliers. Companies can stock cables instead of scanners, and simply change out one cable interface for another when new application requirements arise.

The SR30 handheld scanner supports seamless communication with common POS peripherals and software, which further simplifies set-up and use, and includes Intermec EasySet software for quick personalization of beeper tones, volume and other user preferences. Combined with its aggressive scan rate of 500 scans per second, these features deliver a powerful and flexible scanning tool for point-of-service scanning applications across a broad range of retail, healthcare, office and light industrial settings. The SR30 handheld scanner is available now worldwide.
