Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today received ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standards certification for its Internet Protocol Network Operation Centre (IPNOC) from the country’s leading certification authority, SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd.

The certification award was presented by Dato’ Mariani Mohammad, Managing Director, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd to Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM at a ceremony held in Menara TM.

“With this official recognition, it shows our on-going commitment in protecting our customers’ information assets that is stored within our network against security threats and breaches. The ISO 27001 certification is internationally consistent with the widely-practised and stringent information security selections and approaches,” said Dato’ Zamzamzairani.

The ISO27001 (previously known as BS 7799) is one of the most comprehensive security standards that cover every aspect of information security. The certification is divided into two parts, ISO27001 (previously known as BS 7799) and ISO/IEC 17799:2005. ISO27001 is a world-recognised standard specification for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). ISMS are used by senior management teams to monitor and control the security of their organizations, minimizing the residual business risks and ensuring that the security procedures in place continue to fulfil corporate, customer and legal requirements. It forms a crucial part of an organization’s internal control system.
Congratulating TM on the certification, Dato’ Mariani Mohamad said, “Organizations around the world are increasingly seeing the critical need to have security system in place, given the kinds of threats that exist and their potential to disrupt business operations. Therefore, with this certification, designed to ensure systematic establishment, implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the ISMS will ultimately increase customers’ confidence with TM.”

Dato’ Zamzamzairani further added that TM’s efforts to continuously enhance its network security also demonstrates its commitment to bring more value to its customers. This successful certification is an acknowledgement of the hard work put in by TM in ensuring that the highest standards of information security are developed and maintained within its network.

“Currently, TM has a total of 13 data centres nationwide and prior to this, TM Net Sdn Bhd, a TM subsidiary, has been awarded the ISO 27001 certification for two of its data centres. Moving forward, we will persevere to maintain these standards. TM Net is currently working on meeting the compliance requirements at other data centres. We look forward to receiving this ISO 27001 certification for the other data centres by early next year,” he concluded.
