Happy Moments: Sharing happy memories wins six Malaysians RM19,000

Kuala Lumpur, 27 May 2008 – Malaysians, it seems, are full of happy moments but six special Malaysians have just gotten extra reason to grin ear-to-ear after walking away with RM 19,000 worth of prizes.

The winners of Happy’s Happy Moments contest were announced at a fun-filled evening today. The Top 10 finalists and some of Malaysia’s most well-known bloggers were invited to enjoy an evening of food, games and prizes amidst the announcement of the winners. At the end of the evening, Bani Hakim Sarbini, Nigel Sia Ling-Wei and Nurul Akmal Binti Farid each walked away with a RM5,000 cash prize for the best blog post and best video submission (2 first prizes) respectively.

The second and third prize winners for the blog post category, Chin Wai Luen and Noor Emilda Adam respectively walked away with RM2,000 and RM1,000 cash respectively, while the third prize winner for the video post category, Tham Wai Hon, walked away with RM1,000.

Koay Chee Keong, Head Happy Person said, “The Happy Moments contest was, for us, a very simple concept with a very simple idea: we just wanted people to share happy moments with each other. In keeping with Happy’s brand proposition, we wanted to try something different by pushing this contest solely online and via word-of-mouth, and we were very impressed by the response we got. There was a lot of creativity and thought put in, particularly with the video submissions.”

Over 500 blog posts and video entries were submitted for the Happy Moments contest, which ran for two months ending 31st March 2008. The fully-online contest called for Malaysians to share their happiest moments in one of two categories – a blog post, or a video post uploaded via YouTube – and submit their post via the Happy Moments web page, www.happy.com.my/happymoments.

All submissions were then open to the public to vote for their favourite. Finally, the Top 10 most-voted entries for each category were then judged by the Happy team with prizes going to the three posts deemed most worthy in each category.

Some of the happy moments submitted included graduations, a baby’s view of the world, friendships, reunions, a karaoke-singing baby and happy images conveyed through the manipulation of plasticine models.

“As the Happy team sat down to sift through the contest entries, a couple of things were immediately apparent. Firstly, happy moments need not be complicated. In fact, some of the most happy moments recorded were very, very simple and ordinary, daily things. Like your first cup of coffee in the morning. Secondly, we realised that Malaysians had a lot to be happy about and were pleased to share these things that made them happy. I guess you can say we Malaysians are a happy bunch,” added Koay.

Happy held a Happy Hour event earlier this year, announcing the kick-off of the Happy Moments contest to a select group of bloggers, many of which were present to join in the prize-giving festivities.

Happy, which was launched in December, is Malaysia’s first no-frills mobile service, allowing customers to enjoy calls and SMSes to any network for only 1 sen per second, up to only 99 sen per call, and just 10 sen per SMS.
