3Com Scores Major Cross-Sector Wins in Asia Pacific

3Com expands industry presence with large-scale government and telecommunications projects in the region

MALAYSIA – 12 September 2008 – 3Com Corporation, a leading provider of secure converged networking (SCN) solutions for enterprises of all sizes, today announced several major recent cross-sector business contracts in the Asia Pacific region (APR) in the first half of this year. These significant wins highlight 3Com’s penetration into key industry verticals including the telecommunications, government, education, and manufacturing sectors in APR.

3Com’s most coveted project win came from TOT Corp.—Thailand’s largest state-owned telecommunications company—to deploy networking and voice services for the Bangkok Government Center. For 3Com, the Bangkok Government Center project from TOT represents one of the largest campus network developments in Thailand with about 40,000 voice and data LAN ports.
The products to be used in the network include H3C™ Switch 9500 and Switch 5500-EI switches, an H3C Secpath Firewall system from 3Com’s China-based H3C operation, and a 3Com® TippingPoint® Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Network Access Control (NAC) solution.

“3Com is strengthening its position as a trusted provider for vertical solutions because both 3Com and its deployment partners are focused on customising the network according to the needs of various industries,” said Peter Chai, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, 3Com Corporation. “In addition to experience and excellent technical support, 3Com’s strong price-performance proposition has enabled the company to edge out the other top networking vendors in the industry for these customer wins.”

Other recent notable APAC cross-industry projects secured by 3Com:

Institute Latihan Perindustrian (Industrial Training Institute), (Government Sector)
Institute Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) is responsible for industrial skills development under the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR). ILP used 3Com’s solutions and professional services to deploy wired and wireless networks across nine of its campuses in Malaysia. The new 3Com network for ILP supports secure converged services with the 3Com Switch 8800 Terabit core modular switch that supports a 1.44 Tbps backplane, 3Com Switch 5500G stackable Gigabit switches, and 3Com Wireless AP8760 access points with integrated dual radios that support up to 60 wireless clients per access point. These solutions are tied together with 3Com’s Enterprise Management Suite.

TMNet Sdn Bhd Data Centre, (Telecommunications Sector)
TMNet deployed 3Com’s network solutions across its nine data centres throughout Malaysia to increase service availability, enhance security and improve customer satisfaction for its business customers as well as to support Telekom Malaysia’s New Generation Network (NGN) initiative. The rollout includes the 3Com Switch 8807 Terabit core modular switching solution that supports a 1.44 Tbps backplane, TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and 3Com’s Digital Vaccine service as well as a 3Com Enterprise Management System for central administration.

Samsung Everland Theme Park (Entertainment/Recreation Park Sector)
Samsung Everland Theme Park, Korea’s largest amusement park, used 3Com’s fault-tolerant switching equipment to upgrade its audio network to deliver high-quality digital sound over standard Ethernet across the park’s premises. The deployment includes 3Com Switch 5500 and 4500 switches that give voice VLANs a higher priority over data to eliminate acoustic transmission delays and maintain sound quality.

Beach Road Holiday Homes, Noosa, Australia (Residential Broadband-Telecommunications Sector)
Beach Road Holiday Homes are part of the five-star environmentally friendly Beach Road Resort on Noosa’s North Shore in Australia. The resort implemented 3Com’s Ethernet Passive Optical Networking (EPON) solution to offer triple-play solutions (voice, data and video) at a fraction of the traditional cost through a service provider across 90 homes in the development. The 3Com EPON-based fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment supports up to 1.25 Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth and will be used to deliver IP telephony, broadband Internet, video-on-demand and high-definition videoconferencing to its residents and guests.

Victoria Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (Education Sector)
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) helps the State Government of Victoria (Australia) with education policy and planning. To enable converged services and upgrade its network, DEECD installed 1,600 3Com Baseline Switch 2900 Plus series of managed voice-ready switches to support its operations across five central and nine regional offices.

Tulip Telecom Limited (Telecommunications Sector)
Tulip Telecom Limited, the largest MPLS VPN player in India, deployed 2,500 H3C Quidway AR 18 edge routers that support Ethernet and xDSL interfaces as well as multiple VPN protocols. The extensive 3Com-based access router network gives Tulip a total WAN port solution for extending their network edge to offer customers enhanced intranet and VPN access services at lower cost.
