Juniper Networks Delivers New Family of Dynamic Services Gateways for the High-Performance Network Infrastructure

SRX Dynamic Services Gateways Sets New Industry Benchmarks with Highest Performing Firewall Service Exceeding 120 Gbps

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, September 26, 2008– Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today introduced the Juniper Networks SRX 5600 and 5800 series dynamic services gateways – a new category of extensible “no compromise” networking and security products that set unprecedented benchmarks for high-performance networking.

Running on Juniper’s powerful JUNOS® software, a single-source code base network operating system, the SRX series delivers integrated services, scalable performance and operational simplicity that help high-performance businesses accelerate the deployment of business-enabling applications and services across the network to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

Businesses are under continuous pressure to meet demanding and changing application and service requirements that enable innovation. However, as they continue to massively scale their networks to support advanced applications and services, they are also coming to the realization that they can no longer afford the performance and security tradeoffs and operational complexities associated with maintaining legacy network infrastructure. Legacy network infrastructure is often limited in performance, slow to adapt and costly and complex to manage, which hinders the deployment of new applications and services and ability to scale.

Built Upon an Extensible “No Compromise” Architecture
The Juniper Networks SRX dynamic services gateways are built upon the industry’s first “no compromise” Dynamic Services Architecture™, which delivers an extensible design that can simultaneously scale integrated services and network capabilities on a single architecture. The SRX dynamic services gateways allow innovative businesses to deploy a high-performance network infrastructure that scales in performance, security and services to reduce the escalating demands and risks placed on the network.

This enables fast, reliable and secure access to applications and services from a single network architecture that runs on a single operating system managed by a single management framework which can reduce total cost of ownership.

“With new applications emerging and the security landscape continuously evolving, innovative businesses require a high-performance network with flexible technology to enable the effective, efficient and dynamic deployment of advanced applications and services,” said Matt Kolon, Asia Pacific CTO for Juniper Networks. “Juniper’s Dynamic Services Architecture represents an evolution of networking, enabling businesses to balance network complexity and performance with the services and security they need to extend the value of their network. The SRX family delivers on the promise of this new Dynamic Services Architecture approach.”

Integrated Services: Deliver Superior User Experience
Juniper is delivering a quantum leap in performance and security with the SRX by initially launching the highest performance firewall service in the industry. The SRX dynamic services gateways deliver up to 120+ Gbps firewall throughput – an order of magnitude increase in processing speed compared to traditional firewalls.

In addition to offering firewall services, the SRX device natively integrates other key services such as Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDos/DoS) protection, Network Address Translation (NAT), dynamic routing, and Quality of Service (QoS). The ability of the SRX to support and optimize multiple services enables the device to provide scalable performance and security of applications and key services running on the network to deliver superior user experience and improved productivity.

Scalable Performance: Accelerated Application and Service Deployments
The SRX dynamic services gateways are built upon Juniper’s Dynamic Services Architecture that offers a dedicated dual management engine and purpose-built, carrier-class terabit speed fabric. The extensibility of the SRX offers scalable performance based on the appropriate footprint, types of services and number of input/output and services processing cards.

Unlike single-purpose security appliances or traditional chassis platforms, the SRX dynamic services gateways deliver a wide range of services to meet evolving high-performance business requirements. The range of services as well as the ability to readily “turn-on” new features greatly accelerates application and service deployments.

Operational Simplicity: Minimize Complexity, Cost and Risk
The SRX dynamic services gateways run on JUNOS software to deliver unmatched carrier-grade reliability and operational simplicity. Deployed in more than 200 service provider networks around the world, JUNOS software is the single-source code base network operating system driving Juniper Networks leadership in high-performance networking. JUNOS software is designed to maintain continuous systems and improve the availability, performance and security of business applications.

JUNOS software helps to automate network operations by providing a single consistent implementation of features across the network in a single release train that minimizes the complexity, cost and risk associated with implementing network features and upgrades. This provides network administrators with more time to innovate to deliver new revenue-generating applications, advancing the economics of high-performance networking.

The SRX can also leverage the Advanced Insight Solutions (AIS) intelligence built into Juniper’s JUNOS software. The AIS is the enabling technology for Junipers J-Care Technical Services that provides a comprehensive set of tools and technologies to automate the delivery of network and device information for proactive network protection and support services.

The AIS incorporates intelligent self-analysis capabilities that can store and track potential risks, proactively notify customers of these risks, and then provides information to the Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) to open support cases and help identify and expedite issue resolution.

SRX 5600 and 5800 Dynamic Services Gateways
Juniper Networks SRX 5600 and 5800 dynamic services gateways are ideally suited for large enterprise and service provider networks. The SRX 5800 dynamic services gateway can support more than 120 Gbps of stateful firewall and up to 30 Gbps of IPS, as well as 350,000 connections per second.

Each deployment of SRX devices can be tailored to the specific network requirements, enabling the SRX 5800 to be configured to support more than 400 Gbps interfaces with choices of Gigabit Ethernet or 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The scalability of the services processing cards (SPC) and input/output cards (IOC) are enabled by the terabit speed fabric employed in the dynamic services gateways, which allows for massive scale of Ethernet ports and services processing. The SRX 5600 dynamic services gateway uses the same SPCs and IOCs as the SRX 5800 and can support up to 60 Gbps stateful firewall and 15 Gbps IPS.

Future Service Capabilities
Juniper has a rich security and network services roadmap and the SRX dynamic services gateways will offer expanding levels of service intelligence, innovation and integration over time to keep pace with the changing network and business requirements of customers on a continuing basis.

Pricing and Availability
The SRX 5600 and 5800 dynamic services gateways are available today. The indicative base list price for the SRX 5600 chassis starts at USD $65,000 while the list price of the SRX 5800 chassis starts at USD $68,000.
