Aegis and Isobar, global media groups acquire Malaysian award winning digital interactive company

KUALA LUMPUR: Aegis Group plc, a marketing communications group listed on the London Stock Exchange, announced today the acquisition of a Malaysian digital interactive company, IF/ Interactive Sdn Bhd, by Isobar through its Malaysian operations, Aegis Media Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Aegis Group has about 15,000 staff around the world, with offices in 70 countries. Aegis Group has built on its roots in its two core disciplines - media communications and market research. The objective is to create a business that operates and integrates across a broad spectrum of marketing activities. Aegis Group’s services go from market insight and communications strategy, through digital creative execution and website design and structure, to media planning and buying, brand tracking and marketing analytics.

IF/ Interactive is a leading agency in Malaysia, conceptualising and producing interactive content in traditional and new platform. IF/ Interactive’s strength has been to provoke unseen possibilities and this is proven by the awards collected since its inception both locally and internationally. In 2006, IF/ Interactive swept away thirteen awards in the digital category of the Kancil Awards, the annual premier advertising creative awards. In 2007, it continued to top the digital category with ten awards. The same year, IF/ Interactive marked its first presence and recognition in the global digital world at the One Show Interactive Award 2007 held in New York. It had received a Bronze Pencil award in the web sites category and two Merits in the new media innovation category. It is the first Malaysian Interactive agency to mark a place in these categories.

Early this year, IF/ Interactive was bestowed with the People’s Choice Award and two Official Honorees at the 12th Annual Webby Awards, the most prestigious international award honoring excellence on the internet and are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-member body of leading web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities.

Commenting on the acquisition, Margaret Lim, CEO of Aegis Media Malaysia, said in a statement: “We are extremely pleased that we have been able to acquire the outstanding player in the Malaysian online interactive content market. IF/ Interactive’s services give us the means to enhance and differentiate its digital platform experience, increase customer satisfaction, and maintain strong retention levels. This move is in line with the Aegis Group’s vision to have a substantial equity in this growing business category and for digital revenue to grow to 30% of the total group revenue.”

Margaret added that the partners of IF/ Interactive will continue in their respective roles following the acquisition.

“Malaysia is a growing market for Isobar and Aegis Media and one where we have a strong digital capability already covering Search Engine Marketing via iProspect and digital media from Carat Interactive. The acquisition of IF/ Interactive will bring to the network a young, creative and innovative team that can service both our Malaysian and regional clients. IF/ Interactive has consistently produced some of the finest digital work from Malaysia and will be a great asset to our already strong digital base in Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region,” said Head of Isobar, Asia Pacific, Barney Loehnis.

“We are really excited and welcome the partnership as the way to go forward if we want to grow beyond the Malaysian market. We are determined to take the business global into every market where Isobar and Aegis are,” said Zoya Ileana, CEO of IF/ Interactive.

Zoya added that the acquisition will provide mutual growth to Isobar and IF/ Interactive through sharing of diverse experiences and expertise and be a powerful force for innovation around cutting-edge platforms for delivering content and applications. Hence, giving an in depth integrated approach to achieve seamless communication in the region.
