Intel Malaysia brings Aidilfitri Festive Cheer to underprivileged communities

More than RM10,000 donated by Intel employees from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kulim benefited orphans, single mothers and senior citizensKULIM, Aug. 29, 2011 – Intel Malaysia celebrated the conclusion of the company’s Aidilfitri Festive Cheer 2011 programme after a successful three-week cash and in-kind donation drive across its offices in Penang, Kulim and Kuala Lumpur. The annual program, which is now in its tenth year, raised over RM10,000. The funds that have been collected are intended to help alleviate the plight of more than 620 underprivileged and needy individuals, including orphans, single mothers and senior citizens in Kedah and Penang. Part of the collected funds also went towards purchasing sets of baju raya (festive clothes) for underprivileged children. In addition, Intel employees in Penang and Kulim went one step further and donated other items such as non-perishable food, personal hygiene products, blankets and towels.

As part of the Aidilfitri Festive Cheer 2011 program, Intel Involved volunteers also collaborated with the Kulim Hi-Tech Park Wargakilang group – an independent group consisting of volunteers from various multinational companies (MNCs) in Kulim Technology Park Centre – to form a Festive Donation Distribution Convoy. This convoy, of over 60 vehicles, travelled more than 170km into rural areas of Sik, Kedah and visited families living below the poverty line. Festive goodies and duit raya (money packets) were donated by Intel Involved volunteers, as well as volunteers from the Kulim Hi-Tech Park Wargakilang group.

“The Aidilfitri Festive Cheer program actually goes beyond just raising funds and extending a helping hand to the needy. As a responsible corporate citizen, Intel Malaysia also wants to foster racial harmony and tolerance amongst Intel employees of different races as they come together and contribute to good causes during the month of Ramadhan and in the upcoming festive season of Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” said Robin Martin, managing director, assembly test and manufacturing, Intel Malaysia.

In conjunction with the celebration of the Aidilfitri Festive Cheer 2011 program, Intel Malaysia also organised a Buka Puasa event where Yang Berhormat Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir, deputy minister of International Trade and Industry, was invited as the guest of honour. During the Buka Puasa session, both Dato’ Mukhriz and Martin also presented baju raya and duit raya to 90 children from Rumah Anak Kesayangan and Pusat Jagaan Permata Kasih in Penang, and Rumah Anak Yatim Nurul Hidayah in Kedah.
