Acer Asia Pacific Selects AIMS as Outsourcing Hub

Kuala Lumpur, 6 October, 2011, Malaysia’s leading carrier-neutral data centre operator, AIMS Asia Group (AIMS), has been selected as the outsourcing hub for Taiwan’s Acer Inc., to consolidate its business applications serving its Asia Pacific operations.

AIMS will host Acer’s regional supply chain management systems which will accelerate Acer Asia Pacific’s operational effectiveness. The deal strengthens AIMS’ regional lead in the fast growing IT outsourcing sector.

AIMS’ Chief Executive Officer, Chiew Kok Hin said, “We are pleased to be selected to support global market leaders such as Acer in addressing their regional IT outsourcing needs, with our well-developed infrastructure, more regional companies are considering Malaysia as their regional outsourcing hub.”

Acer Asia Pacific’s Regional Manager for Information Services Dr Daniel Tan said, “We are delighted to be working together with AIMS as the outsourcing hub for Acer Inc., serving the Asia Pacific market. We take pride in the fact that we are running this initiative with top-of-the-line Acer enterprise-class servers”.

“Acer servers and server management solutions have reliably powered our global business operations over the decades and the recent decision by the Taiwan National Center for High-performance Computing to award a supercomputer contract to Acer is a reflection of our computing ability and technical expertise."

AIMS is one of the few data centres in Malaysia that provides a carrier-neutral environment to international carriers. With no preference to any specific telecommunication provider, AIMS has managed to attract over 200 carriers and service providers to place their network node within its data center.

The Acer Group has four brands under its roof; Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell and eMachines. It ranks No. 2 for total PC shipments and No. 2 for notebooks in 2010. Acer has operations in North America, Australia and India with a total workforce of 8,000 employees worldwide.
