BAE SYSTEMS STRATSEC AND universiti malaya COLLABORATE to raise awareness about CYBER SECURITY

Kuala Lumpur – BAE Systems Stratsec (Stratsec), the largest provider of independent information security consulting and testing services in Australia and South East Asia, is empowering the next generation of Malaysians with practical knowledge in the area of information technology and cybersecurity. This initiative complements parent company, BAE Systems’ long-term strategy to establish partnerships with education stakeholders and transfer technology to Malaysia.

Stratsec collaborated with Universiti Malaya (UM) to host a Stratsec Universiti Malaya Student Security Fair 2012 at the UM campus. The purpose of the event is to engage and educate students about the growing concern of cybersecurity issues while imparting world-class knowledge and expertise about how to combat such threat. Stratsec connected with 100-150 students from Universiti Malaya’s Center for Information Technology and faculty members to provide an overview on vulnerability assessment, applications of security penetration testing, and advanced penetration testing techniques. “This initiative is pertinent at a time where businesses and government agencies in Malaysia are no longer immune to cyber threat. This is how government and corporations need to think now – any infrastructure network can be compromised. The good news is that we can partner with educational institutions to adequately prepare the next generation of Malaysians by equipping them with practical skills” explained Peter Lilley, Chief Executive Officer of Stratsec.

“This initiative marks a key step in Stratsec’s regional strategy to develop partnerships with Malaysia and support national infrastructure with cutting edge cybersecurity solutions. Stratsec is also the first Malaysian-based member of Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) Pro Network, enabling Stratsec and our partners, access to world class expertise, processes and tools resulting in unparalleled security assurance,” continued Peter Lilley.

Stratsec conducted training on Application and Infrastructure Penetration Testing for staff at UM’s Center for Information Technology in March. The event also marked the successful completion of the training.
