U MOBILE WIDENS DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH GCH RETAIL

Telco the First in the Market to Offer SIM Packs at Giant Outlets Nationwide

Kuala Lumpur, 1 August 2012 – U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most innovative and dynamic telco, announced today that it has expanded its distribution network via a new partnership with GCH Retail Sdn Bhd, expanding the telco’s total distribution channels to more than 22,000 outlets nationwide.

The partnership with GCH Retail is a strategic initiative by U Mobile to reach out to a broader consumer market and provide greater convenience to consumers. As a result, U Mobile prepaid SIM packs will be made available for purchase in 151 retail outlets including Giant retail outlets, Cold Storage and Mercato supermarkets in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak by end of this year. To kick-start the collaboration, U Mobile prepaid SIM packs are currently available at 20 outlets within the Klang Valley. This is in addition to customers being able to top-up at Giant outlets, a facility which has been available for some time.

Commenting on the partnership, CEO of U Mobile, Jaffa Sany Ariffin said, “This collaboration is in line with our company’s three-pronged strategy, which is to establish a quality, robust network infrastructure, strengthen the brand through innovative product offerings and, widen our distribution network.”

This strategic partnership also marked a milestone for the company, making U Mobile the first telco operators in the region to offer prepaid SIM packs in Giant Hypermarkets, Supermarkets and Superstores nationwide. The collaboration is an expansion of the company’s existing partnership with other non-traditional distribution channels including Singer, 7-eleven, Cosway and LH Sales & Marketing.
