Samsung Partners Alt Media to Introduce Malaysia’s Premiere Entertainment Streaming Application on SMART TV Platform

A wider content offering for Samsung SMART TV with Tonton TV application

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 6 September 2012 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, has embarked on a new partnership with Alt Media Sdn Bhd to expand its variety of content offerings for the Samsung SMART TV. Alt Media is a fully-owned subsidiary of Media Prima Berhad, Malaysia’s leading media conglomerate, which owns and operates Malaysia’s No. 1 video portal, Tonton.

The partnership was officiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, held earlier this week at Sri Pentas, Bandar Utama. This collaboration will see the development of Malaysia’s first entertainment streaming application on a SMART TV platform with Tonton, which provides catch-up TV service for contents aired on TV channels, online portals and radio stations within the conglomerate. This includes TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, Gua TV, Fly TV, Hot TV, One TV and many more.

This innovative application, which is currently in the development stage, will enable consumers to enjoy an array of local and international contents that cater to a diverse group of users – all on the Samsung SMART TV. Not only do users get to catch-up on their favourite television programmes at any time – and in the comfort of their own home with Samsung SMART TV.

“With the Samsung SMART TV, we are providing more than just innovative technologies and state-of-the-art features with a vast selection of content offerings for the benefit of our consumers. This will provide a greater variety of movies and TV programmes to our customers, so they can enjoy exceptional image quality with their loved ones,” said Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Tonton TV application, which will be made available to Samsung SMART TV users by December 2012, enable them to access Tonton’s library of movies and TV programmes, such as Buletin Utama, Wanita Hari Ini, Bella, Ho Chak and Muzik Muzik at the tip of their fingers, without the hassle of logging on through a separate computing device. Uploaded to Tonton’s system within two hours after the programmes are originally aired on the respective channels, SMART TV users can now bury qualms over missing out on their favourite programmes by watching them through Tonton TV Application.

“Our strategic partnership with Samsung offers customers with a vast collection of local and international content, with the majority drawing from Media Prima’s massive content offerings. Fresh and popular content will speak to Samsung SMART TV customers. Additionally, this will offer the current Tonton users another platform to watch their favourite programmes on Tonton.
