Trend Micro: Wish List for Budget 2013

Mr. Goh Chee Hoh, Managing Director, SEA Region, Trend Micro Inc.

Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cloud security leader, hopes for a
holistic approach in addressing the ICT industry during the tabling of Budget 2013. It is vital that
the budget is able to transform the current ecosystem and ensure Malaysia to be globally
competitive in the future.

A greater emphasize on cyber security is highly required in line with the Digital Malaysia
programme that is set to generate RM31.1bil in investment and high value job creation of
160,000 by 2020. In our path to successfully realize Digital Malaysia, enhancing the level of
cyber security should remain as top priority of the national agenda. Thru this, investors’
confidence will be boosted, resulting to more investments that will position Malaysia at the
forefront to become a developed digital economy by 2020.

We also hope that the government continues its push to drive further adoption for Cloud
Computing within the small medium enterprises (SMEs) through its MSC Malaysia Cloud
Computing Enablement initiative, which is an incentive programme by Multimedia Development
Corp (MDeC) for eligible SMEs. Trend Micro believes this incentive programme, which helps
reduce the initial cost of implementing Cloud-based solutions, will boost the Cloud adoption rate
amongst SMEs especially in the ‘consumerisation’ of IT today.

Based on the current rampant and inevitable movement of the ‘consumerisation of IT or more
evidently manifested through the Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) trend, more employees are
now opting to utilize devices and consumer applications of their own to conduct company
business. These “devices” include smart phones, pads, tablets, mobile devices and external data
plans are posing an enormous challenge and impact on how enterprise IT protects endpoints and
secures data.

Apart from the incentive programme, Trend Micro hopes that there will be tax incentives for
companies that opt for Cloud-based solutions as this will further accelerate the deployment rate
which in return will drive greater productivity, connectivity and cost reduction for businesses and
organisations.

In line with the national agenda to promote cyber security and safe online practices, Trend Micro
wishes to build a generation of responsible digital citizens whose online behaviors demonstrate
media literacy, safety and security, ethics and community. We hope to include the Internet Safety
for Kids and Families as a syllabus amongst students and in the schools to propel further
awareness on Internet Safety.
