GLC EXPLORACE 2013 – ANOTHER PLATFORM TO BROADEN THE HORIZON OF MALAYSIAN ENTREPRENEURS

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today held the inaugural “GLC Explorace™ 2013”, which congregated local entrepreneurs and vendors together with MITI and its agencies as well as Government Linked Companies (GLCs) under one roof - providing them with a platform to convene and acquire the latest information on entrepreneurship, as well as explore broader horizons for business opportunities.

The GLC Explorace™ 2013 was officially launched by YB Datuk Ir. Haji Hamim Samuri, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM was also present at the launching ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani said, “TM is honoured to work together with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry to co-organise this event - the first of its kind. We share the hope that our local entrepreneurs will grab the opportunities to learn, acquire and share as much as possible with their fellow members in the fraternity, and from the participating companies and agencies. This is the chance to expand your business reach and network to an even wider scope, in order to further improve your company’s performance and strengthen your footprint in the market.”

“TM, as one of the major GLCs, has always been supportive of the development and growth of local entrepreneurs, including Bumiputera entrepreneurs. TM has also long been a driver of the Vendor Development Programme (VDP). We are proud to share that TM is one of the first GLCs to establish and implement this programme which focuses on supporting high quality, value-added and sustainable development of TM vendors. After 20 years of its implementation, the programme has benefited more than 600 vendors thus far. This is going to be the next phase in the transformation of the VDP - in order to look into the sustainability of the vendors’ businesses, by exploring business opportunities with other GLCs and at the same time reduce dependencies between both incumbents and their related vendors. Towards this end, we are working closely with MITI together with other government agencies, such as TERAJU to provide a boost in terms of their capacity and capability building for local entrepreneurs and vendors,” added Tan Sri Zamzamzairani.

Among other participating companies besides TM, are Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd, UEM Berhad, Sime Darby Berhad and Proton Berhad while participating agencies under MITI are MIDA, MATRADE, SME Corp, SME Bank, Malaysian Automotive Institute, MIDF, Halal Development Corporation and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).
