Synology Presents DiskStation DS414j

Budget-friendly 4-bay NAS server with solid performance

Taipei, Taiwan—April 29, 2014—Synology® today introduced DiskStation DS414j, a feature-rich 4-bay NAS server specifically designed for small offices and home users to effectively manage, protect and share data.

“Synology is dedicated to bringing both business and home users affordable yet robust storage solution, and DS414j is no doubt the epitome of such dedication. Being the first j series to feature dual core CPU and SuperSpeed USB, DS414j really heralds a new era for the budget-friendly NAS,” said Nicole Lin, product manager at Synology Inc.

Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, the DS414j delivers groundbreaking performance in its tier: an average 112 MB/s reading in a Windows® environment, and 80 MB/s writing. The built-in floating point unit (FPU) further enhances the overall capability of the main CPU, and is particularly advantageous in speeding up thumbnail processing. Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the DS414j consumes only 36.7 watts in full operation and 8.5 watts in HDD hibernation. Furthermore, the smart airflow and noise dampening designs make it extremely cool and quiet compared to PC counterparts.

The DS414j runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0, an intuitive operating system that provides a host of applications to bring better productivity at work. Synology was voted as “PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner” and received the highest rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
