Scope International推出ICT競賽

Scope International Launches ICT Competition Kuala Lumpur, Friday, 21 September 2007 – The Scope International ICT Competition was officially launched today by the Minister of Human Resources, YB Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn. The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Julian Wynter, Chief Executive Officer Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, Mr Edwin Nevis, Head Global Shared Services Centre KL & CIO Malaysia. Scope International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank.

In his opening speech Mr Nevis said:

“The main objective of this competition is to spur and encourage ICT development amongst university students and ICT professionals, support the government’s aspiration to increase the country’s pool of knowledge workers and offer competition winners potential recruitment opportunities at Scope International.”

In his welcome remark, Mr Wynter said:

“We are delighted to be able to support the Malaysian Government’s aspiration in developing Malaysia into a global ICT hub supported by world-class Malaysian knowledge workers.

“We believe this competition will serve as a platform to foster and showcase local ICT creativity as well as innovative business ideas and models. More importantly, we believe this competition will raise awareness of the country’s much needed ICT skills and talent and efforts by all parties in nurturing and developing them into global teams capable of managing cross-border IT-related roles.”

The competition will run for three months and will close in December. Entries will be judged by an independent panel of industry experts and academicians.

As part of its talent management and development in ICT, Scope International also work closely with local and regional universities and colleges such as the Multimedia University (MMU), Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) and Universiti Sains Malaysia in providing structured training for their undergraduate students.

About the ICT Competition 2007
The Scope International ICT Competition is a nationwide competition inviting University Students and ICT Professionals to submit their proposed business/ICT related innovative ideas. Participants could focus their ideas towards creating innovative consumer or trade solutions for banking, telecommunications, government, lifestyle, entertainment, or/and other any general business sector. Entries must be in the form of a written business proposal (not exceeding 1,500 words) in Microsoft word format.

This competition is open to all Malaysians, foreigners and permanent residents of Malaysia aged 18 and above. Foreigners should be working professionals locally employed or/and students in tertiary institutions. Each team must have a minimum of one Malaysian participant.

University students and ICT professionals can compete in teams comprising of two to five persons in each team. The pre-requisite for team participation is a minimum of one Malaysian per team.

The competition will be judged by a panel of judges comprising industry experts and academicians.
