TIME DOTCOM PARTNERS PALETTE MULTIMEDIA TO LAUNCH 10Mbps BROADBAND TO HOMESKUALA LUMPUR, 30 August 2007 – TIME dotCom Berhad today became the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Malaysia to offer 10 megabits per second (Mbps) high-speed broadband to residential homes. The service called Netlynx, is offered in collaboration with Palette Multimedia Berhad and piloted in the up-market Damansara Perdana area in Selangor.
Available in packages of 2, 4, 6 and 10 Mbps, the service gives customers the flexibility to opt for the desired bandwidth that suits their requirements. Described as the next generation broadband, the 10 Mbps-to-the-home service was officially launched by the Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Dato’ Seri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik. Also present were TIME dotCom Managing Director Dato’ Baharum Salleh and Palette Multimedia Executive Director Mr. Sukhdev Singh.
Netlynx will be available for subscription in Damansara Perdana from 3 September 2007 onwards.
“This is a landmark event by TIME dotCom and Palette Multimedia as it revolutionises the broadband experience for users in Malaysia. A 10Mbps broadband service is already a common thing in countries like Japan and Korea but I am very pleased that this is now happening in Malaysia,” said Dato’ Seri Dr. Lim.
“This will certainly give a brand new experience of broadband to the users and will truly revolutionise and set high standards for the industry. TIME dotCom and Palette Multimedia are what I call revolutionary players for the industry. An efficient high-speed broadband service will only encourage more users to embrace the next generation technology and this certainly works well towards our MyICMS objective to achieve a broadband penetration of 75 percent of Malaysian households by 2010,” he added.
Together with Palette, TIME dotCom concurrently launched the service in Nusajaya, Johor, and plans to expand the service to other parts of the Klang Valley, Penang island, and Johor Bahru in the next six months. TIME dotCom has the most extensive fibre trunk network in the country, consisting of over 3,600 km of terrestrial 0backup system with landing points around the perimeter of Peninsular Malaysia.
TIME dotCom Managing Director Dato’ Baharum Salleh said: “We are confident that this service will receive an overwhelming response from the consumers as they have been waiting for it for a long time. Netlynx will put Malaysia at par with other ICT-advanced countries in the region such as Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. As for commercial users, we are also enabling Netlynx of 30 Mbps up to 100 Mbps for commercial applications by mid-September somewhere in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.”
“With this kind of broadband speed, the user can do a lot of things. Bandwidth will never be a problem or an issue any more. What’s more, Netlynx is very flexible you can opt for any package anytime, according to your needs. Netlynx is such an innovative breakthrough as it encompasses all three communications services i.e. Internet access, voice and video,” explained Dato’ Baharum.
“Since our core network is now fully Internet Protocol (IP)-based, we are now able to offer a variety of IP services over Netlynx such as managed applications and hosted applications for businesses, and other value added services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), Voice over Broadband (VOBB), content services, security, storage ,Video on Demand (VoD) and IPTV,” he added.
Meanwhile, Palette Multimedia Executive Director Mr Sukhdev Singh said: “We are pleased to be partnering TIME dotCom on this project to bring true triple play services to subscribers. Palette is pleased to be the technology provider for this project, encompassing the infrastructure, network systems, VOIP and IPTV products as well as our home grown Mobilette product for managing the network. We have garnered extensive experience over the past few years in implementing high speed wired and WIMAX networks throughout the region and we are pleased to bring that experience as well as our R&D abilities to this partnership both in Damansara Perdana and Nusajaya.
