F-Secure獲MDeC由STAR資金撥款進行研發

F-Secure Corporation Awarded the MSC Strategy Thrust Areas in Research (STAR) Fund

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 26 February 2008 – F-Secure Corporation, the global leader in providing security as a service through mobile operators and Internet Service Providers, today announced that The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has offered a research grant to establish special projects in the Security Research environment. The announcement of the RM6,568,640.00 grant was made at the F-Secure APAC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Under the STAR Grant, F-Secure will carry out three (3) projects:

Windows Mobile Network Shield
§ Protect Windows Mobile users against Malware, Hacker attacks and bad content over the mobile protocols
· Network Reputation Service
§ Detect malicious site or malicious behavior in the Internet and prevent user access bad parts of the Internet
· Vulnerability Watch
§ Detect system vulnerabilities, prevent exploitation or vulnerabilities and fix the problems before Malware causes damage

“In today’s day and age, traditional signature-based Antivirus and Firewall are not enough to protect a company’s mobile workforce that frequently connects directly to the Internet outside of the corporate networks. Today’s new malware is mainly produced by teams that are funded by organized crime. Malware and the IT security threats in general are an organized crime; Malware with money making as the primary target,” said Santeri Kangas, F-Secure Director of Research.

Santeri Kangas added that this project will focus on the research work to build proactive prevention mechanisms that solve the problem one level deeper.

With the acceptance of the research grant, F-Secure will continue to strengthen its Research focus and capacity in Malaysia as it looks forward to gain a significant competitive advantage in this area.

STAR, a spin-off from the MSC Grant Scheme (MGC) is aimed at attracting leading R&D oriented technology companies to conduct core R&D activities in the MSC Malaysia. F-Secure is the third company that has been awarded funding as part of the Malaysian government's R&D initiative - the MSC Strategy Thrust Areas in Research (STAR) project. STAR funding is available to both overseas and local companies. It offers them the opportunity to apply for grants to help develop Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).

At the signing ceremony MDeC CEO said: “The outcomes of the STAR programs are intellectual property such as patents that can be taken up for further R&D by potential Malaysian companies as well as to alleviate the lack of skilled workers in research. This will also require forging collaborative R&D efforts among leading-edge foreign technology leaders, Malaysian companies of any size, public research institutions and universities.”

Dato Badlisham Ghazali also explains that, “STAR program provides a maximum fund of RM7.5 million (50% of the approved project cost for 2-year duration) for approved research projects. The applicant is expected to undertake cutting-edge R&D and employ at least 90% Malaysian knowledge works with technology degree and train them. The outcomes of the STAR programs are intellectual property such as patents that can be taken up for further R&D by potential Malaysian companies as well as it helps to alleviate the lack of skilled workers in research.”
