MIMOS BEGINS TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALISATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER TO MUTIARACOM

Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) appoints MutiaraCom as MIMOS Precision Agriculture Technology Recipient
PENANG, 21 April 2008 – MIMOS yesterday transferred its Precision Agriculture technology, through the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), to MutiaraCom Sdn Bhd.

MutiaraCom Sdn Bhd was identified by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), as the primary recipient of MIMOS’ Precision Agriculture Technology together with 5 other companies under its umbrella, under its technology licensing programme.

Through MOSTI’s technology licensing programme, MIMOS is helping to bolster the growth of globally competitive local companies and indigenous industries through applied research in frontier technologies. MIMOS’ focus is on strategic market-driven product development and advanced technology which essentially involves the development of technology for future products through commercialization.

“MIMOS Precision Agriculture technology, namely the Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Sensor, is just one example of how MIMOS is building up the technology eco-system to address the market needs and demands. Precision Agriculture is the key to moving Malaysia’s economic needle,” said Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah, President & Chief Executive Officer, MIMOS.

Technology Transfer
MutiaraCom will capitalize MIMOS technology platform to address the agriculture demands and needs as part of the national agenda by offering affordable low cost
precision agriculture solutions.

“We are positioning ourselves as a precision agriculture service provider to our consortium of companies and will focus our solutions into enabling the capability in acquiring required information from the fields, information transportation, information processing and eventually offer effective decision making through service oriented module. As a result of higher yield and more quality crops, our consortium of companies, will be able to extend their market reach,” said Dato Abdul Latif Mirasa, Chairman, MutiaraCom Sdn Bhd.

MutiaraCom will also take on training of the farmers, planters, data and information interpreters and analysts on the technology usage which will result in more skilled farmers.

MOSTI awarded the technology document to MutiaraCom and was represented by YB Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation at a handing over ceremony held in Penang yesterday.

MIMOS also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize its technology transfer collaboration with MutiaraCom. Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah signed on behalf of MIMOS; while Mutiara Com was represented by its Dato Abdul Latif. Present as witness was Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Second Minister of Finance.
