Oracle Employees Volunteer to Protect the Environment and Help Children in Need

Spirit of volunteerism alive and well in Oracle Corporation Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 15, 2008 — Oracle Corporation Malaysia employees volunteered their time and effort recently to help improve their local community, as part of Oracle’s Global Volunteer Days.
Held every year, the Oracle Global Volunteer Day is an initiative where Oracle employees around the world engage in volunteer projects that benefit the communities where they live and work. In conjunction with the recent Oracle Global Volunteer Day, Oracle offices in 37 countries contributed more than 23,000 volunteer hours through a variety of community projects.
Oracle Malaysia management and staff worked together on a “green” project with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) to help plant Asoka tree saplings at the FRIM nursery site in Kepong, Selangor.
In addition, the Oracle team also held a Food and Book Fair to collect staff donation for the needy. The RM8,000 raised from the food and book fair collection was donated to the following charities:Wake Home in Kuala Lumpur, which provides shelter, treatment and care for HIV positive and AIDS suffering children.MAA-MEDIcare Kidney Charity Fund in Kuala Lumpur, which manages various operational costs in treating its patients.Agathians Shelter in Petaling Jaya, which brings positive changes to the lives of less fortunate children.
“Volunteer projects give us an opportunity to go beyond our business-focused activities and really make a difference in the community where we live and work,” said K. Raman, Managing Director, Oracle Corporation Malaysia. “The Oracle Malaysia team is delighted to have a chance to give back. With these types of activities, Oracle volunteers spread awareness about social, health and environment issues. Our “green” project is also a reflection of Malaysia’s increasing focus on environmental matters.”
