Kuala Lumpur – May 15, 2008 – Marking its one-year anniversary recently, Nokia Siemens Networks today outlined its successes in Malaysia over the last 12 months and its future plans to drive innovation and growth in the local telecommunications industry.
“The Malaysian market has grown steadily for Nokia Siemens Networks and we expect that growth to continue this year,” says Bill Chang, Country Director, Malaysia, Nokia Siemens Networks. “We started hosting the Master of Maya game for Maxis Communications Berhad last year and it drew a record 20,000 users to the game in its first phase of launch.
Our DVB-H project with UMobile is coming along well, and we have signed an MOU with a reputable local GLC company, PERNEC to exchange the knowledge and skills and work together on Next Generation Networks (NGN) projects in Malaysia”.
In Malaysia, Nokia Siemens Networks has also been much focused on the national broadband project, and sharing of its global WiMAX experiences with MCMC. “MyICMS 886 Goals are to increase the total broadband penetration to 75 percent of all households in Malaysia by 2010; this is a great opportunity for all stakeholders, and we are honored to share our global broadband expertise and experience with the government,” says Chang.
“Nokia Siemens Networks firmly believes that 5 billion people will be connected via mobile, wireless and fixed broadband communication services by 2015 with 4 billion of them over broadband,” explains Chang. This expansion will be accompanied by a 100-fold boost in traffic over the world’s networks and will require innovation across the entire ecosystem to support it. We are in an excellent position with our innovative technologies and services to deliver on this requirement.”
Innovative technologies must help customers adapt to quickly changing markets. As operator and service provider business models flatten and become less monolithic, there is a growing need to equip customers with best tools to capitalize fully on emerging and niche markets. “Going forward we see a great potential in Malaysia for our Village Connection solution that offers an innovative way to build rural connectivity, village-by-village, while enabling local entrepreneurs to run a franchise-based business model that brings communications to the community . It truly has a great chance to eliminate the Digital Divide”, adds Chang.
Another notable area of growth will be the increased efforts to modernize the core telco space, where Operational and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS) will play an important role. For instance, the Nokia Siemens Networks Integrated Provisioning Solution (IPS) provides powerful tools for workflow modeling, service configuration and their activation onto networks and devices. It is designed for cost-effective integration and the co-ordination of operators’ and service providers’ networks with services, IT infrastructure and business support systems (BBS). Says Chang, “Integration costs play a significant role in the service provisioning process. New services must be provisioned end-to-end at the network elements and service nodes level with the aids of BSS and OSS systems.
By using standard interfaces, the adaptations and automating the integration testing, the Nokia Siemens Networks IPS can make considerable savings in costs and time.”Operators can draw on Nokia Siemens Networks’ heritage in the telecoms space, and on their OSS/BSS solutions to augment intelligence in their network management system, thus improving return on investment.
With these new opportunities in mind, Nokia Siemens Networks is committed to helping communications service providers understand the changing market dynamics and transform their business in order to secure long-term growth. Nokia Siemens Networks is going from strength to strength, but more importantly, leading with innovation, new ideas and a commitment to service.
