Ricoh Malaysia Pledges RM500,000 in Support of MIM’s National Management Game

Contribution marks Ricoh’s commitment in promoting managerial competency and leadership excellence among managers in Malaysia

MALAYSIA, 23 September 2008 – Ricoh, a global leader in digital office solutions, contributed a significant cash sponsorship of RM500,000 to the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) in support of the Institute’s National Management Game (NMG) at an MoU signing ceremony between both parties at Ricoh’s office in Shah Alam.

Under the MoU, signed today between Mr Lim Eng Weng, Managing Director of Ricoh Malaysia and Dr Wilson Tay, Chief Executive Officer of MIM, Ricoh Malaysia will be MIM-RICOH National Management Game’s Platinum Sponsor until 2013. The company pledged RM80,000 in 2007 to kick start the inaugural MIM-RICOH National Management Game. The sponsorship made it possible for players to compete nationally, and the Malaysian champion team won an expenses paid trip to compete regionally at the Asian Management Game held in Kolkatta, India last year.

The MIM-RICOH National Management Game is a realistic computer-simulated business game that tests the knowledge and skills of players in the fields of production, investment, pricing, finance and marketing strategies. A team-based competition, the Game is an excellent platform for corporate managers to pit their decision-making skills against one another. After the initial qualifying rounds the National Champion Team will move on to compete at the regional level.
Through the competition, players are able to understand the importance of strategic planning, sound decision-making, economic scenario planning and performance reporting. The game also enhances one’s understanding on how different decisions impact business operations.

“Human capital development is crucial to the social and economic growth of the country. Ricoh is taking an active role to cultivate excellence in management practices especially at the mid to senior managerial levels.” said Lim Eng Weng. “We firmly believe the annual National Management Game will be able to uplift competitiveness and competency of Malaysia’s managers”, he added.

Ricoh Malaysia will not only participate in sponsoring the MIM-RICOH National Management Game for the next five years, but also collaborate in other major MIM events as well as training its staff through the Institute’s management leadership development programmes.

“We are grateful to Ricoh for its generous sponsorship and strong support. The Ricoh-MIM collaboration is in line with our mission of providing management leadership development, training and education to our members and community of practising managers,” said Dr. Wilson Tay.

Ricoh Malaysia is a group member of MIM. To further support the operations of the Institute, Ricoh is setting up a state-of-the-art ‘Odyssey’, an On Demand Centre (ODC) aimed at offering cost saving but high quality publishing and printing facility for the use of MIM and its members. The ‘Odyssey’ (ODC) will be located at the lobby of Management House – MIM’s head office in Kuala Lumpur.
