Oracle Malaysia employees help “Rumah Hope” children as part of Oracle Global Volunteer Days

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – November 13, 2008. More than fifty Oracle executives and employees, together with their families, volunteered their time and effort to help “Rumah Hope”, a children’s shelter home in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. Their volunteer efforts were part of the ninth annual Oracle Global Volunteer Days.

Oracle Global Volunteer Days (GVD) is a global initiative to promote volunteerism among Oracle employees and to celebrate their year-round service to organizations throughout the world. This year, Oracle Malaysia organised a trip to “Rumah Hope”, a shelter home that houses more than fifty abused, neglected and under-privileged children.
FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Oracle employees and the orphans of “Rumah Hope” Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya.

Oracle employees gave the walls and pillars of the home a new coat of paint and provided housekeeping in the children’s dormitories.

Oracle Malaysia also donated food, engaged in games with the children and held a food fair to raise funds for Rumah Hope. A total of RM8922.80 was contributed.

"Oracle Global Volunteers Day is a time to encourage volunteerism, celebrate our employees' year-round service, and maximize the impact of Oracle's commitment to corporate citizenship. Our work at the shelter gives us an opportunity to go beyond our business-focused activities and reach out and help the community that we live in. The Oracle Malaysia team is proud to show our care and commitment to the community,” said K. Raman, Managing Director, Oracle Corporation Malaysia.

Thenmoly, who has been at Rumah Hope since the tender age of 10, said, “I have been staying here for the past 6 years. I have made many good friends here. I always look forward to weekends because we have different activities to participate in, such as outings, visits to the movies and so on.”

“I like people visiting us at Rumah Hope because we always have goodie bags and delicious food to eat. Visitors are all kind and friendly to us. Living here at Rumah Hope makes me feel like I have one big happy family,” quoted a 13-year-old girl, Vanni.
