NTT Communications Accelerates Security Innovation with Juniper Networks Open IP Solution Development Program

Juniper Partner Solution Development Platform Enables Customers to Create Unique Value-Added Services with JUNOS Software

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, May 28, 2009 -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, announced that NTT Communications (NTT Com) has joined the Juniper Networks Open IP Solution Development Program (OSDP).
As a member of the OSDP, Juniper Networks provides NTT Com with access to the Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP), which enables customers and partners to develop specialized applications on its best-in-class JUNOS® Software.

NTT Com is utilizing the PSDP to expedite the delivery of specialized security services focused on Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) prefix hijacking protection. NTT Com is developing BGP prefix hijacking protection as part of the service provider's involvement in the Japanese government's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications research project.

With the PSDP, NTT Com can continue to create its own new and unique applications that are fully supported by the network, control and data planes. Allowing applications to run directly on the Juniper router — tightly integrated with JUNOS — delivers a level of performance, reliability and scale that cannot be achieved by similar applications running on separate network appliances.

"In today's competitive environment, NTT Com is always looking for new ways to differentiate their products and services. Juniper's PSDP helps us accomplish that by accelerating the pace with which we can create new and unique functionality," said Masato Minamisawa, executive manager of IP Technology Department, Broadband IP Service Business Division, at NTT Communications. "With Juniper's PSDP we get all of the strengths and benefits of JUNOS and we are able to leverage our internal development teams to enhance our network and deliver the differentiated services that our customers require, both faster than our competitors and at a lower total cost."

The PSDP provides resources, including a software development kit (SDK) for carrier grade routing platforms, with intelligent and secure interfaces to JUNOS routing and service functions, and technical and business support. With the Juniper PSDP, service providers can develop and deploy the specific capabilities that are important to the success of their business models, such as security, data stream manipulation, deep packet inspection and specialized protocols.
NTT Com's route hijacking protection solution will be beta tested in October 2009 and is expected to be deployed in the network in March of 2010. NTT continues to develop additional applications through its involvement in the OSDP and PSDP program.

"NTT Communications is proving the value of the PSDP and OSDP program," said Craig Bardenheuer, vice president of Open IP Business, Juniper Networks. "The applications NTT Communications is writing to provide enhanced security services are perfect examples of how Juniper customer partners can drive their own innovation with JUNOS Software for the deployment of new and differentiated network capabilities that will provide increased value to Internet users."

JUNOS Software is the single operating system integrating routing, switching, security and network services from Juniper Networks. With its modular architecture and single-source code, JUNOS provides a proven foundation for delivering best-in-class performance, reliability, security and scale with attractive total cost of ownership. With continuous systems availability, intelligence and automated operations efficiency, JUNOS Software offers providers a unique view of the services and network availability their customers require, which helps to deliver an enhanced user experience.
