EMC Strengthens Leadership Position In Malaysia FC SAN and iSCSI External Storage Markets in 2008

Information infrastructure provider also grew market share in storage hardware and software markets; maintains lead in FC SAN segment for two consecutive years, attributes growth to customer priority alignment and trust

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – June 8, 2009 – EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that its Malaysian business entity, EMC Computer Systems (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., grew and strengthened its leadership position in the FC SAN and iSCSI external storage markets in Malaysia, as well as expanded its market share in the total external storage for the year ending 2008, according to the IDC Asia Pacific Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker Q4 2008, March 2009.

EMC also extended its 2008 share to lead in the Malaysia storage software market according the IDC Asia Pacific Semi-Annual Software Tracker, April 2009.

In 2008, Malaysian companies continued to look to EMC for technology innovations aligned to CIO priorities such as tiered storage, information protection, virtualization and content management.

Peter Goh, EMC’s Country Manager for Malaysia, said: “EMC’s broad portfolio of information infrastructure solutions is meeting customers’ needs and this has translated into real growth opportunities for EMC in 2008 in both external storage hardware and storage software markets. EMC’s industry leading solutions have earned the trust and confidence of our customers, and this has allowed EMC to retain our lead position in both the high-end and mid-range external storage markets.”

The IDC external storage report[1] indicates that although the total market for external storage in Malaysia declined to USD48.15 million in 2008, EMC grew its market share to 23.84% as market share of its two closest competitors dropped over the same period.

In the same report, IDC figures also show that EMC grew 40.26% year-on-year in the iSCSI storage segment in Malaysia with a 30.83% market share. In addition, EMC’s 29.80% market share in the FC SAN segment helped the company maintain its lead in this space for two consecutive years.

In the IDC storage software report[2], EMC grew 22.51% year-on-year based on revenue figures from CY2007 to CY2008 with a 17.39% share in the USD27.81 million Malaysia storage software market.

In 2008, EMC Corporation posted total global consolidated revenues of a record US$14.88 billion, an increase of 12 percent year-over-year, that represented EMC’s sixth consecutive year of double-digit annual revenue growth.

“Over these first months of 2009, EMC has noted that Malaysian enterprises and growing companies are increasingly focused on investing in information infrastructure solutions and services that help them improve operational efficiencies and maintain their competitive edge,” said Goh. “We remain intensely focused on our customers’ top priorities in 2009 – saving money, attaining a faster ROI, reducing risk and preparing for the delivery of next-generation data centers,” he added.
