Consumers Worldwide to Receive Free Norton Online Backup
MALAYSIA, Kuala Lumpur – June 15, 2009 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) recently announced an agreement with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to distribute Norton Online Backup on HP consumer desktops and notebook PCs worldwide. The 30-day trial offer of Norton Online Backup will come pre-installed and provide five gigabytes (5GB) of convenient and secured online storage to HP users. Symantec has a leading presence in consumer online backup with more than eight million customers and three million backups per day.
Norton Online Backup, available in 21 languages, helps ensure that users’ most valuable files and digital assets are always kept safe and easily accessible by storing them in the cloud. Uploaded files can be accessed anytime, anywhere through a simple Web site, and backups can be seamlessly controlled for up to five PCs through the same central account.
While nearly half of consumers report having lost files in the past, less than a third regularly back up[1] – underscoring the need for a readily available and easy-to-use solution. Norton Online Backup delivers backup with ease-of-use and security.
Users can remotely manage and restore lost files from any computer with a Web browser and connected to the Internet. Backups are conducted automatically or on a user-defined schedule, while advanced data compression and a technology for “block-level” incremental backups enables faster data transmission.
And coming from the leader in consumer security, Norton Online Backup is supported by a high-level of encryption, both before the files leave the computer and during transmission to Symantec’s data centers. The files remain encrypted in Symantec’s professionally managed, highly-secured data center facilities.
“We’re very pleased that HP continues to choose Norton, this time to bring our new web-based backup service to HP customers worldwide,” said Janice Chaffin, president of the Consumer Business Unit, Symantec. “Consumers are accumulating priceless digital assets -- such as family photos, music and financial files -- at a record pace. Consumers know they can trust Norton, the global security leader, to store and protect their data.”HP consumer PCs currently ship with a 60-day version of Norton Internet Security.
