DiGi hosts record-breaking OctTwtFest

2,615 Tweeters checked in at DiGi’s headquarters in Shah Alam

Shah Alam, 24 October 2011 –DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”), on Saturday, played host to the world’s largest tweet-up, a gathering for people who are connected via Twitter. Organised by WAGO, Churp Churp, Rain Dough and Reka, the event saw the first tweeter check-in at 3.00pm and by 12.00 midnight, there were 2,615 tweeters who had checked in come together at DiGi’s headquarters in Shah Alam.

The idea of a tweetup is to meet up with fellow tweeters and meet new friends. The 1st gathering was held on 23 October 2010, where over 600 people showed up.This year’s OctTwtFest broke the previous Guinness World Record, held by Detroit Lions football player, Ndamukong Suh who had registered 1,935 check-ins in April 2011. The festival also had Malaysian celebrities like Lisa Surihani, Natasha Hudson, Mizz Nina, Awal Ashaari, dropping by to meet-up with their twitter followers, while, local artistes like Altimet, Joe Flizzow, Sona One and Hujan were on hand to entertain the crowd during the festival.DiGi’s Head of Communications, Joachim Rajaram said “DiGi is happy to be the venue sponsor of this year’s October Tweet Festival. With many of DiGi customers being huge Twitter users, it makes sense that we come in to help the Malaysian Twitter community make history. After all, it is very much in line with our on-going campaign, to deliver Internet For All to all Malaysians of all ages and all walks of life to enjoy harness the power of the Internet, and this provides an opportunity for DiGi to show our support to help break the world record.”

From 3pm until midnight, there were an array of activities, which included karaoke, PS3 challenges and board games, a movie marathon, and many more.
