New exciting format for popular PC Fair 2011

PC Fair 2011 to be held at new venue, PIKOM ICT Mall at CapSquare, Kuala Lumpur, Nov 3 - 6, 2011

TUEDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2011, KUALA LUMPUR – Local technology enthusiasts can look forward to a refreshed format as the year-end cycle of PC Fair 2011 throttles up. The Fair, organised by PIKOM, the National ICT Association of Malaysia, is to be staged in 14 locations nationwide, including twice in Kuala Lumpur. The fair roared to a great start as it was recently flagged off in Muar, hosting more than 15,000 eager shoppers.

According PIKOM President Shaifubahrim Saleh, the Fair has evolved into a Post-PC era, with more emphasis on mobile computing, tablet devices and even digital cameras with built-in connectivity, making it easier to post updates or photos on social networks, a key trend identified. “It is interesting that trends like user interactions using touch, move and slide gestures are now changing the way end-users experience computing. Visitors to the Fair this week can see for themselves the emergence of such computing trends,” he said.

The Fair continues this week after the Festival of Lights, which is celebrated October 26, 2011. The second leg of PC fair 2011 will be held in three locations; KB Mall in Kota Bahru October 27 – 29 and Penang in Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) and Dewan Masyarakat in Tawau October 28 – 30.

Next week, the Fair continues with its third leg highlighted by a new venue debut at PIKOM ICT Mall at CapSquare, Kuala Lumpur. “This will be the first time we’re having the Fair at PIKOM ICT Mall. It is highly symbolic and marks a full circle – PC Fair is making way to its home,” he said, adding it also coincides with PIKOM’s year-long 25th Anniversary celebration which features more than RM300,000 worth of prizes and gifts.

Shoppers at the Fair can participate in activities and win Apple iPad2s, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, Canon digital cameras, Dell netbooks, Logitech gaming headsets, desktop speakers, Bluetooth devices, external hard drives, Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, USB drives and many more devices.

In addition, shoppers with a minimum purchase of RM100 in a single receipt are entitled to take part in the lucky draw for a RM100,000 Mazda2 1.5 DN78 RAB (special edition) Hatch Back. The Fair will be held at PIKOM ICT Mall for four days, instead of three, from November 3 – 6, 2011, which will also coincide with Hari Raya Haji, which falls on the same weekend. Asides special appearances and ample activities to mark the historic milestone, he anticipates a large turnout in lieu of the new location.

The third leg also includes four more locations; Pusat Dagangan Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu November 3 – 5 and Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh and Dewan Sri Mentakab in Mentakab November 4 – 6.

The fourth and fifth leg of the Fair will be held at Melaka International Trade Centre in Melaka November 11 – 13 and Youth and Sports Complex in Seremban November 25 – 27.

The Fair makes its year end stop at December 2 – 4 at Batu Pahat Mall in Batu Pahat, Village Mall in Sg. Petani and KL Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur. “Our 25th Anniversary comes to a bumper celebration at KL Convention Centre,” he said.

“We see an emerging trend for accessories for tablets and smartphones, including Bluetooth or WiFi enabled speakers and headsets. Android-powered devices, smartphones and tablets are also coming out in force at PC Fair 2011. We expect visitors to have their hands full shopping for their preferred devices.”

A combined total of more than 1,000 exhibitors in 14 locations are participating in PC Fair 2011. “It will be interesting to gauge the purchasing power of shoppers given the recent tabling of the budget early this month. PIKOM remains committed to further advance our country’s pace of information and communication technology adoption, especially with a well liked and popular platform like PC Fair. We also take this opportunity to wish our Hindu friends a very Happy Deepavali.” – PIKOM
