Samsung Monitor, Global No.1 for 5 Consecutive Years

SEOUL, Korea – December 19, 2011 – Samsung Electronics took 15.5 percent of the global monitor market in the third quarter, becoming the world’s No.1 for five consecutive years (21 quarters) since the third quarter of 2006.

According to IDC, market research firm, Samsung’s sales jumped by more than 10 percent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, shipping 6.42 million units.

In particular, the global market leader sold more than 3.49 million premium LED monitors in the third quarter, accounting for 25.5 percent of the overall monitor market. This means that one out of four LED monitors sold in the world is Samsung monitor.

Samsung performed even better in the large-screen monitor market. Its share in the large-screen monitor market sized above 24 inches was a whopping 27.5 percent with 1 million units sold in total in the third quarter.

While the overall monitor market around the world grew by a merely 5 percent in the second quarter, LED monitor sales jumped by 26 percent in the third quarter from the second quarter and even twice year-over-year—demonstrating a drastic shift from LCD to LED monitor.

Samsung’s sales performance proves the trend clearly by strengthening its premium lineup. Its LED monitor sales makes up for over half of the total monitor sales.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled a series of innovative monitors from early 2011, aggressively marketing their various features and high performance. They range from full HD 3D monitors to Central Station monitors—which enables users to connect peripheral accessories and LAN cable directly to the monitor not to a computer—and to professional wide-viewing-angle monitors which adopts a PLS(plane to line switching) panel.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s four monitor models won the Innovation Awards of 2012 CES, which is the world’s largest consumer electronics show to be held in January, 2012 in Las Vegas, the United States, proving once again the superiority of Samsung’s advanced technology in the monitor market.

Samsung monitors have also received great praises one after another from tech media. CNET, one of the world’s renowned IT tech media in the U.S., highly praised, noting that Samsung monitors always excite consumers and push the envelope in terms of performance and unique features.

PC Pro, a U.K. IT media, cited that Samsung SA850 offers superbly wide viewing angles, delivering high resolution both horizontally and vertically.

“Samsung has endlessly put the utmost efforts to innovation products and develop unique designs, resulting in the unparalleled leadership in the global monitor market,” said Jeong-Hwan Kim, senior vice president of display sales & marketing team at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to reinvent ourselves to cement our reputation of “Monitor equals to Samsung” both in mass-market models and in premium models.”
