• Intel Anti-Theft service will be made available for the first time in Malaysia beginning April 2012 via Ingram Micro’s resellers

• Built-in security features enabled on Intel laptops powered by 2nd Generation Intel® Core processors

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Feb. 28, 2012 – Intel, in collaboration with Ingram Micro today announced a limited launch of Intel® Anti-Theft Service. This initiative is the first of its kind in Malaysia and it will enable consumers to safeguard and secure their laptops. Intel Anti-Theft Service will be available to selected retailers under Ingram Micro beginning April this year.

This Service uses Intel Anti-Theft Technology (Intel® AT) built into the laptop hardware as a foundation to lock down lost or missing laptops. Additionally, this Service helps create a secure data vault upon service activation where private files can be encrypted and stored. Ingram Micro has collaborated with Intel to provide this service as a paid option to its customers buying laptops that are powered by the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors. This service will make its debut with six of Ingram Micro’s resellers namely Challenger Technologies, Corpacer Malaysia, PC3 Technology, SnS Network, ThunderMatch Technology, and Wynet Solutions. More resellers are slated to offer the service later this year.
“With increased mobility, laptop users around the world face increased risks of theft or loss of device and data. Loss of sensitive data in some cases can be detrimental and expensive,” said Steve Dallman, Vice President of Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group and General Manager of worldwide reseller Channel Organisation. “We are excited to globally collaborate with PC distributors such as Ingram Micro to make this Security Service available for Intel Core powered laptop users.”

“Mobile PC usage in Malaysia is on the rise and we expect to further accelerate it with the new Ultrabook TM devices. Protecting users’ sensitive information as well as laptops themselves is paramount,” said Prakash Mallya, country manager of sales & marketing, Intel Malaysia. “We are thrilled to see Ingram Micro via its re-sellers offering Intel Anti-Theft Service for Malaysian laptop users.”

Intel Anti-Theft Service takes advantage of intelligent hardware to lock down a lost or stolen laptop. It works even if a thief reimages their hard drive, installs a new hard drive, changes the boot order or avoids connecting to the network. A lost or stolen laptop can be locked-down such that it does not boot by sending a notification over the internet or by using intelligent hardware timers on the laptop. This Service also creates a secure data vault on a user’s hard-drive to provide protected storage area for sensitive information. When the laptop is locked-down, access to information in secure data vault is locked down as well and cannot be read even if the hard-drive is attached to another laptop.

Laptop owners can display custom message on locked laptops facilitating return by good samaritans and can revive the laptop to its full functionality by using their personal password.

“We are proud to be the first distributor to introduce Anti-Theft service for all the laptop users in Malaysia. With the launch of this Anti-Theft service, our consumers will now enjoy peace of mind while securing their laptops and their digital lives.” said Daniel Chan, Executive Managing Director Ingram Micro. “Ingram Micro and its resellers are delighted to partner with Intel for this exceptional service that will provide our customers an opportunity to safeguard their laptops.”

Under this program, Ingram Micro will be offering boxed Intel Anti Theft service at a starting retail price of RM 99.00 for a 1-year period and RM199.00 for a 3-year period from the day the user activates the Service. Intel will be responsible for service hosting, customer support and working with different OEMs to ensure their laptop hardware is embedded with Intel Anti-Theft Technology.
