Canon Introduces the PIXMA Pro-1 Professional Photo Printer

A Professional 12-colour photo printer that combines new inks and state of the art technologies to satisfy the colour demands of consummate photographers.

Kuala Lumpur, 22 March 2012 – Canon, a world leader in digital imaging, has released the PIXMA Pro-1, a professional 12-colour photo printer that pairs up perfectly with the high-end EOS cameras. Designed to meet the needs of professional photographers, this new printer uses the LUCIA ink system and Chroma Optimizer to print high quality and long-lasting photographs of up to A3+ sizes.

As camera technology improves, photographers are capturing better photographs with richer and brighter colours. The PIXMA Pro-1 is designed for professional photographers who are looking for a photo printer that allows them more precise control so they can accurately reproduce the colours that they desire.
“With the introduction of the stylish PIXMA Pro-1 Printer, Canon is reinforcing our commitment to providing quality imaging solutions with exceptional levels of productivity ideal for professionals who want to print photos that are suited for studio and commercial use, “said Donny Ling, Director of the Consumer System Products Division of Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

A greater spectrum of colours
Canon has equipped the PIXMA Pro-1 with several features to expand its colour gamut. Using 12 different coloured ink tanks that not only expands its colour gamut (especially in red, magenta and yellow), it also stabilizes its print colours to provide consistent and uniform prints. These 12 ink colours also include five monochrome inks for superior black and white prints with smoother gradations and suppressed graininess.
The inks are delivered by a new print head known as FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering), which can achieve high-quality professional-grade resolution of 4800 x 2400 dpi. There is 12,288 nozzles (1024 nozzles x 12 colours)in the PIXMA Pro-1 printer, almost doubled the amount of nozzles compared with previous models that helps improve printing speed.

Chroma Optimizer is included into the printer, adding a layer over the inks to create a more uniform level of glossiness and regulates surface reflections. In addition, Chroma Optimizer can also enhance the density in darker colours, for deeper blacks with more gradations.

Another key feature of PIXMA Pro-1 is the OIG (Optimum Image Generating) system, which meticulously analyzes the intended colour and determines the most ideal ink mix based on factors like print modes, different printing media, and other qualities of the image.

Higher productivity
Professional photographers require a printer that grants not only superior quality, but increased productivity too. Keeping that in mind, Canon has outfitted the PIXMA Pro-1 with large-volume ink tanks that are 2.5 times larger than the previous photo printer models. Larger tanks translate into less time needed to replace the ink tanks.

The PIXMA Pro-1 also has rapid printing speeds, thanks to the FINE print head and separate tubular ink supply systems. With these systems in play, the PIXMA Pro-1 can print an A3 bordered full colour photograph in 4.20 minutes, vast improvement over the Pro9500 Mk II's speed of 7.55 mins.

Ease of use has also improved with the inclusion of a new two-way paper feeder at the rear, including a dedicated feed slot for users to manually feed 14 x 17” paper and thick paper. An ethernet port also allows multiple users at different computers to use PIXMA Pro-1 over a wired network.

Enhanced software support
Like its hardware upgrades, the PIXMA Pro-1’s software support has also seen improvements amongst which includes the Easy Photo Print Pro (EPP Pro), a plug-in that is compatible with major photography programs such as Adobe Photoshop. This plug-in will allow these programs to print photos with EPP Pro's unique capabilities like being able to maintain consistency in the look of printouts in different lighting environments.

The PIXMA Pro-1 will be available from April 2012 onwards at the recommended retail price of RM3, 899 while consumables for the Pro-1 are priced at RM141 individually.
